I brought it to the dealer to check it out and perform the 10K service on it. They made me leave it overnight, refused to give me a loaner because "we only do that when the car is not drive-able for at least 24 hours" all just to get the "unable to reproduce"/"no error codes" excuse. The trip meter showed that a whopping 0.7 miles was clocked during dealer testing.
And the name of the Dealership is ????

By the way, I would not have a car, without triple AAA, and my package allows for up to 120 miles----at least I think that's the figure -- anyway, where every I drive, I can ask that I be taken to my dealership (Fladaboe of Orange County, CA)

Got a call today and miraculously a new transmission showed up at the dealer. They're dropping the old one and installing a new one tonight or tomorrow and I should have my car back after testing.

They're going to cover the injector recall while it is there too. I can't wait to get my car back and get out of this Hyundai!

I lived in Irvine for a period of time in 2008 and my roommate and I were looking at R32's there. Not too bad of a dealership.

Just to remind you all something you all already know, when a dealership says 'they will cover the cost', my understanding is that the dealership gets a credit from VWoA, and that in fact the costs are covered by VWoA, if not Germany.

She's all fixed and good as new.

I must have the new program or something because I now get the actual gear I am in on the MDI in addition to the shifter position.

Before I would just get D or S - now I get D3, D4, S2, S3 etc.

The car also shifts a lot better at lower speeds in parking lots and taking off from stop signs.

All in all VW stood up and fixed the issues. I am happy with the service provided by both the dealer and VWOA.

Southern States Imports, on Wake Forest Rd in Raleigh NC.
I'm wondering if it was bought by Leith since the old southernstatesvolkswagen.net now redirects to Leith VW of Raleigh?

Congrats on the new, functional transmission Steve.

Well it escalated, sorta.
Drove on the freeway and luckily was waiting at a light at the off ramp.
Went to hit the accelerator and the car went into limp mode with a flashing "D" and wrench alternating where the "D" should be.
Limped home, turned car off and back on, which cleared the wrench, but the car is still shifting horribly.
Think I am gonna call roadside assistance on Monday and have her towed in. I captured the flashing wrench on a video clip and my power was reduced to 20 MPH pushing 3K on the tach so I didn't want to push it further.
I hope the computer stored some kind of code (I should go check) so that they believe me when I see the wrench. The tranny issues only seem to happen when the car is warm now too. Once the car goes off the first or second tick on the temp gauge is when the issues start back up.
Here's a video of the limp home mode if you are so inclined (YouTube):

I know I am bumping an old thread but this happened to me this morning. I was in stop and go traffic and felt the transmission thud and then get stuck in first with the flashing wrench exactly like in the you tube clip. In fact, I googled the symptoms and it took me right to the video and I found this thread later. I pulled over, turned off and restarted my car, then the problem was gone. I am going to step outside and scan it with VCDS in a minute. I am praying I don't need a new transmission or mechatronic unit. My car is 2011 JSW with 120K on it.

I hope so too. I've lost the repair order and seem to have deleted it from my Google Drive but it was not a cheap repair. My vehicle was still under warranty. I no longer own it but once the mechatronic unit was repaired I had no further issues until faulty dealer repairs resulted in a blown turbo but that's another story. That was repaired via a 50/50 split between VWoA and the dealer (because of my service history at the dealer). Shortly after that I felt I couldn't trust the car from a reliability standpoint and sold it.

Ironically I now drive a Jeep Cherokee with a "first year" Z9 transmission that while it still functions, shifts horribly. It has been back for 3 reprogramming campaigns.

Oh well. Sending you the best of luck.

UPDATE: I found the old records:

Repair Order: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B66au4G-dN4aU2FvaXRleGV3TTQ/view?usp=sharing

VCDS Scan (showed 3 errors, one with the dreaded "mechatronic" word):

Did you have the whole transmission replaced or just the mechatronic? I can get a good price on a mechatronic, it's just all the other items (clutch and flywheel) that really add up. I would be doing all the work myself but would rather avoid replacing everything if not necessary. I just bought the car less than 6 weeks ago and purchased the DSG over manual to save money in the long run (expensive clutches and bad synchros in the manuals). Guess this may be costing more in the long one but I suppose I'll find out. I hooked up VCDS and this is what I pulled:

19143 - Unexpected / Implausible Mechanical Gear Disengagement
P2711 - 005 - - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100101
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 255
Reset counter: 40
Mileage: 194440 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2001.14.08
Time: 07:43:16

I have a different code then what you had so maybe damage isn't as bad or is different. In another thread (see here), someone got the code I got and it turned out the clutches were bad. I have noticed the clunking when the trans is downshifting while rolling to a stop. It is something that is heard more than felt. I'm new to DSG's so it is hard to tell what is normal and what isn't. I suppose I'll just keep an eye on it and see what happens.

Mine stated both the mechatronic and the rear transmission bearing unless they are one in the same. I seem to recall them stating to me that I had to have a whole new tranny because the mechatronic was integrated into the tranny itself but I could be mistaken. Wish I could be more helpful.

Good luck.

Sorry for the delayed response. You are correct. However the financials worked the repair was covered under the new vehicle warranty.

Just wanted to update my post that since I had the issue a few days and couple hundred miles ago I haven't had any more issues. Hoping it was just a one time glitch. I'll be paying attention to it though.
