My friend’s 2019 Golf Alltrac just passed 100,000 miles. Our local VW dealer just told him when it came in for service to expect to change the DSG clutch pack fluid soon. Cost would be $700 parts and labor. He can’t find any reference to this service procedure nor can I. My TDI is a MT6spd and I’ve done one fluid change during the 128,000 miles I’ve had for lots less than $700.
Could they be just referring to the basic DSG fluid change? I have to ask him if that was done at 40k each time it came up.
But is there anything different for the clutch pack?
Even though I ended up replacing my clutch last year due to a hydraulic master cylinder failure (never trust the dealer to get it right the first time) maybe I’m glad I’ve got the stick shift stil!

There's no way $700 covers the clutch pack, which requires tranny removal. It's a simple price gouge for a fluid change. There are tons of youtubes for DIYing it.
I thought so. On the domestic side I’ve always gone with a 48k or 2yr fluid & filter change for any automatic transmissions. I’ve been bit twice by Chrysler products both cov under extended warranty. Yet after that each vehicle went on without issues for over 200k by paying attention to fluids.
I’m going to make sure my friend has had the correct service done on his DSG and have him think of another mechanic if not. Thanks!

$700 is cheap (for a dealer)... Before COVID I had a small market VW dealer, not even a union shop, quote me $800 for the 40K service which is oil change+filters+DSG service. Got the parts from ID parts and with the excellent advice here have done 3 DSG fluid and filter changes since, no problems!

That would be the DSG transmission service which is supposed to be done every 40k miles. That seems to be a fairly common price for the dealer out east, I do them for around $300 here at my shop in Missouri.
