OK, this whould be an easy one for someone in the know....some mornings when I start my car at about dawn, sometimes the DRL's come on, sometimes they don't, at least until I start driving. What's up with that? It's a 2011 JSW by the way....

Do you sometimes have the parking brake engaged and sometimes not?

Hmmm....hadn't considered that. Does that make a difference?
yes, even when the parking brake is slightly applied, DRL will be off. I once did that to save battery when my serpentine belt stopped moving my alternator...

Parking brake ON = DRL OFF

Parking brake OFF = DRL ON

Sounds like the automatic headlights are coming on and off as they see fit.

When the auto headlamps turn on, the DRL's will turn off. and vise versa.

VeeDubTDI has it right, I confirmed it this morning. The parking brake on cancels the DRL's until released. Entirely makes sense, actually. I guess i was just inconsistant in applying the hand brake when I parked. Duh!

There would have been an idiot light informing you of the brake being engadged accompanied by a sound while driving.
