Drove from S. Cal to Sequoia Nat'l Park this past weekend. Ambient temp in the afternoon was about 114 degrees. Saw MANY vehicles pulled over with the hoods open.
Curious to find out if there is a larger oil cooler for the Mk 7 that will help out when the time comes for me to do that cross country trip to all National Parks when I hit the big 65.

Solution looking for a problem?
Oil cooler is fine as is. A few extras 10s of ambient temps wont do anything if the primary coolant/radiator is functioning properly.

So for me, regularly commuting in 115-118F ambient temps results in around 100+C coolant temps and 115-124C oil temps. I do think my car runs on the hot side though. Still, no coolant loss or overheating beyond just past top center for a few seconds on the temp display.

What was your oil temp @ 114 ambient?
I was a passenger in a Subaru Outback. The thought crossed my mind when I saw a few big rigs pulled off to the side overheating.

I've never driven my car in ambient temps above 100 here in the Carolinas, and the reading on the dash is 230 F when I'm steady at 70 w the AC on. Highway 5 through Gorman had many long low grade inclines and I felt sorry for the Subaru as there were 4 of us and w/ the trunk full of luggage, the 2.5 was struggling to stay at 65 on the uphills.

That would be the overthinker in me. :)

larger oil cooler? larger than what? a TSI? its more off an oil heat exchanger than an oil cooler as its just a coolant loop through the filter section, the Golf R has an actual external radiator style oil cooler.

To open your eyes, track charged air intake temps, i bet that air to water IC was feeding the engine 200-250F temp air, so the only downside is reduction of power.
