DPF won't regen

No Check Engine Lights (yet) but saw this as a yellow/temp code in the scan tool app

P2002
Particulate Trap Bank 1, Efficiency below threshold

P1006

I immediately took the car for a 25-30min drive hoping to force a regen. Took it on the highway, was cruising at 75mph for about 10 min.

Came back home. No regen had ever started as far as I could tell by keeping an eye on the RPMs. It always dropped down to 800-820. DPF Regen always made my RPMs go up to 1k. Soot level sitting at 23.2g, it was at 22g before the drive

Any advice? I don't have VCDS, I have Carista but it doesn't give me the custom option to add the DPF feature (I'm using a 3rd party OBDLink MX)

Try clearing the codes for the ECU when the car is warmed up and to see if the car will regen.

my wagon is like 80+ mph to get the rpms up above 2200 in 6th.
2200-3300rpm is the sweet spot for (highway) passive regen--at least that's what i've read.
try going 75 in 5th.

I'm afraid to take the car out again. What if the DPF light comes on and I get stranded in limp mode.

I think I remember that you can initiate a regen by driving 45 mph in 4th gear for an extended period of time. I think it might even be in the owners manual, but I didn't check.

You kind of always have to drive like you're trying to do a regen, if you still have your dpf. 1800-2200 rpm on cruise control on the open road, every time you have the chance. For now, go to an open highway and cruise control in 5th at 2200rpm for like a half hour, and see if that helps.

I'll probably try it tomorrow, I'm just worried about the car going into Limp mode while I'm on the highway

Also I found soot inside my tailpipe just now. I've read that's not supposed to ever happen?

do you know what your warranty status is?
unfortunately, it looks like you need to address your failed DPF.

at least wipe the tailpipes clean and see if the soot comes back to confirm. the car won't leave you stranded, but if you drive for an extended length of time with the DPF clogged, it will eventually clog the EGR--P0401.

i know when mine was failed it was quite obvious, puffing smoke on the upshifts, soot on the bumper, yeah.

So I drove it around for about 30 min, kept RPMs between 2200 and 2800. no active Regen started. I decided to clear the ECU faults and disconnected and reconnected my OBD2 scan tool

it's now showing 0.0g of soot. maybe it did a passive Regen by keeping the RPMs at that specific range for almost 30 min? I don't think clearing the ECU faults would reset the DPF Soot reading

I'll probably have the car looked at here soon, my VW mechanic knows a guy who does the delete for you, so..

I do not have a Mk6. That being said, a passive regen in a Mk7 wouldn't effectively clear out the DPF to proper threshold numbers as you describe. Using driving 'style' to initiate an active regen would do it, but it sounds like your ECU is preventing it because of the numbers reported from the DPF. I would try to find someone with VCDS (or buy a cable) and follow the RT forums for initiating an active regen, which is likely what VW would try to do if the car is still within parameters.

Are you monitoring your coolant temps? It won't regen at all if your tstat has failed.
yeah coolant temps are fine. the P2002 code went away last night when I started the car for some reason. the dpf light never came on, it was just showing up as a temporary trouble code on my scan tool

the only code showing up now is the P1006

not familiar with the P1006 code off hand.
i'd stick with my recommendation of cleaning out the tailpipes to see if soot appears.

So I've got my VCDS installed on the laptop and plugged in. Having some issues with checking my DPF stats.

I clicked on Engine, Basic Settings

I typed in 241 under the Group option and clicked GO

It's saying "ERROR GROUP 241 NOT AVAILABLE"

Any tips?

108 and 241 don't work. It's acting like it doesn't matter what code I input.

Any VCDS experts around?

Did you select Block 099 first, and otherwise follow the Rosstech instructions?
Wow, I'm an idiot. I figured it out. It says my Soot load (Calculated) is 7.5g and Measured says 0.0g

Why did I have a P2002 code if these values look normal?

Wonder if there's anything else I can check

Is there an RT procedure to force an active regen? This what I would attempt, unless your DPF has returned to normal operation (despite what the readings might be).

Waiting for the engine to heat up to proper temp and then gonna try to force active Regen.
