I'm not new to diesel engines in general. Having worked on them and have owned a variety of "dirty" diesels. I am however new to the DPF operation as far as actual hands on road time. As a new 2011 JSW TDI owner I have unanswered questions on its operation. T.I.A. to experienced driver input that will help myself and possibly others new to the game.
1) I've gathered the DPF regenerates every 5-600 miles?
2) Is it time/mileage or computer parameter demanded?
3) What are the indicators its happening?
4) I've gathered there are 2 emissions dealt with. Soot and ash. Soot burns off, ash accumulates?
5) Is there an actual numeric value assigned to soot and ash amounts?
6) Does fuel quality effect these levels? If so will filtration help?
7) Can DPF be renewed or is it a throw away once its plugged?
