Hello everyone,

I recently bought 2015 audi a3 1.6 tdi auto with 120k miles on the clock. Within 2 hours of driving it lost all coolant and gave me warning to check coolant level and EML came on. Diagnostics showed p0401 and p2002 codes. Car pulls and drives fine otherwise
Heating wasn't working.
White smoke and water would come out through exhaust on cold start.
Chnaged egr valve and cooler with used one and cleaned heater matrix through cooler pipes.

Heater and loss of coolant solved but eml comes back with those codes. Regen won't work or complete successfully . Exhaust is sooty black with little black smoke coming out on harsh acceleration. Drives and pulls fine with no loss of power.

I believe the private seller that sold me the car filled the coolant tank and deleted eml before selling me car sold as seen.

Any suggestions please.

Does your car use Adblue/DEF?

The car doesn't use adblue.

I would like to add that the positive battery terminal gets corroded so I put new battery in and it does the same thing.

Then I believe your car does have an internally fractured DPF, which is leaking dirty exhaust into the low pressure EGR and blocking that filter indeed.

Read the post referenced in post #2 of this thread.

I feel for you, not a nice situation to be in, but now you know that ails your car. If you want to be 100% sure, just disconnect the EGR filter and have a look, but if you can actually see black smoke on hard acceleration that's proof enough.

We didn't get the 1.6L, is that a 3 cyl? Perhaps the job is not as bad with a smaller engine. I also have a petrol 1.4L Jetta which has gobs of space by comparison. Also, maybe the DPF cost is better in Europe?

Once again, my thread may not apply to his car. A 2015 Audi A3 1.6L TDI isn't something sold here, isn't one of the engine codes we use, and doesn't conform to our regulations.

Europe had CR TDIs that didn't even have the low pressure EGR at all.

My guess is that it is likely more akin to the CRUA, which is completely totally different than the CJAA that my thread addresses.

CRUA has DEF, and even without the low pressure EGR, they most certainly could have fractured DPFs.

I am a little surprised a 2015 model would have no DEF, but then again Europe had some PDs with DPFs.

Sorry I didn't know I posted this in a non UK forum.

I bought this for my sister as her first car to drive around local only covering under 50 miles a week. Decided to use it as it is until it gives more trouble.

Thnaks for your time.

No need to apologize, this is an international site, just a lot more active members in North America. However, we do have a few active and knowledgeable members from other places.

Not sure if @Seatman could have a better idea of your particular engine.

Try putting vw 1.6 cr tdi fault P2002 into google, I'm seeing mention of the pressure sensor and stuck exhaust flap whatever that is.

I don't know much about the cr engines, this is my first and my first dpf

This is the time and mileage to reset codes and behave the car has no faults sell car and flee 😁
I have 115k 2015 A3 and it does now same.. this is the lifespan of this car about 10 years..
I was thinking selling mine car and not tell the faults... Probably will do part ex and won't tell the faults 😁
But I don't have smoke just coolant leaks.. DPF pressure sensor - intermittent.. constantly coming back .. all those known issues..

The A5 is the same basic platform as the A4, Q5, A6, A7, etc. We DID get diesel Q5s, A6s, etc. but all ours were V6s, and AWD, but they also would have gotten the 5 cyl diesels, too. It's amazing...and sad... how many diesels (and how many MANUALs!) Europe got that we didn't. 4 cyl diesel manual MB coupes, even.
