Door lock issues

Hi everyone!

Pretty much since I got the car the left rear door has had a locking issue. It will make a machine gun sort of noise or wont unlock the door. Unfortunately while it was under warranty it would happen so infrequently that I would forget about it when I brought it to the dealer for servicing. I hooked up VCDS to my car for the fuel filter purge and checked for any faults as well. The door is throwing a fault, but the fault logs are currently saved on another computer. I'll grab the fault and post it here when I get a chance.

Has anyone had an experience with the door locks in Jettas?

Same thing. It waited until the warranty was out to behave that way consistently. Initially it was once a month. By the time I got tired of it, it was staying stuck about 1 time out of 3. You had to open the door from inside because the power lock or outside latch wouldn't work. I believe it was around $250 to replace the locking mechanism.

The locks are c^)P.
I am suprised that VW can sell a modern car with as unrelaible locks and latches.
Mt 2009 is the only car I have ever had with door and trunk latches that have failed.

Call VW and see if they will cover this even though your warranty is up. I brought my Jetta in because of a whining noise in the left front at 30K miles. They said the air intake was loose. I was still there when I brought it in at 35K miles. They said it was normal. at 38K miles it was still there and lo and behold, the wheel bearing needed to be replaced....for $600, becuase it was out of warranty. I called VW and the next day they said they would cover the total cost of the repair.

Same thing happened to my R/H rear...VW's have always had lock issues, probably the supplier has been beat up over price and they use China express parts...or something. The dealer changed mine (twice) and now it seems to be working...For how long who knows?

I use the front L/H door to access and have no kids....so it is not a pain all the time, just embare-assing when you have to explain it to a buddy or rear R/H passenger...Good luck.

Just had the driver's side rear door lock replaced on my 2010 Jetta TDI. It was making kind of a groaning noise when the doors were unlocked, then would not unlock intermittently. Just had it replaced. It is a $250 part, but they replaced it without charging me for the part. I did have to pay for labor, though. It seems VW door locks are notorious for this issue.
