my main interest is with the new GTI wheels, that look like Alpha Romeo 147's.

They have the rotary dial look.

Two ?'s
1st and foremost: does my 2002 Jetta have the same lug pattern and offset that the MKV jetta and gti?
I have heard no from a friend who has worked many years in VW dealer parts shop.
If they are different what does the process entail for conversion? I remember doing this back in my honda days (8 years ago!) and I remember that changing the offset was not a huge deal

2nd Does anybody know who makes these wheels?

I love my OEM 18" BBS RS (bought in 03' during the 25th anniv) just bolt em on.

There are adapters you can buy that would work... 5x100 on MKIVs, 5x112 on MKVs, KJ is right...

The new Mark V's have 5 x 112 bolt pattern and they also have a bigger ET.

If you like the GTI style wheel, you can get one in a 5 x 100 bolt pattern in a 16" x 6.5" rim off the new POLO GTi which has recently been released in Europe (and Australia):

I am resurrecting this as I am someone elses thread on Vortex.

On vortex someone implies that a conversion is not possible for 5x112 on 5x100 car. if it is possible than how.

and I am interested in the Ronal Detroit for the Polo. I would like to know their weight.
I just love this style and I think it suits VW very well.

I was highly considering going with OZ Ultraleggras (17 or 16) they are REALLY light, no OEM wheel comes close, they are 17 lbs max, my bbs are 20.

Ok then, well I am on the hunt for the POLO GTI wheels.
Does anybody know if anyone is selling them in America?

thats good to know, but yours and Tomo's answers contradict, maybe one person is assuming based on common sense knowledge.

I am pretty sure I want to go with 16's at the end of the day

I got to find these :)

I hope the Polo wheels look as sharp as the GTI ones.

It doesn't conflict.

The MKV offset is around +48mm. The MKIV offset is around +35mm.

By using a set of adapters, say H&R you can use a 5x112mm MKV wheel on a MKIV. The minimum thickness of the adapters are 20mm (there's 22mm & 25mm) also.

Actually the A5 Offset is 50 and the Jetta4 offset is as he stated 38 so if you put a wheel of 50 offset on a 20 MM adapter that is an offset of 70.......
That wheel should really stick out of the wheel well....

You might want to look at the definition of offsets, especially positive offsets.

When you mount an A5 wheel onto the A4 chassis, let's say identical wheel widths (to make the visualization easier), the inside wheel edge will be about 18mm closer to the inside surface of the fender well. This also means you have a 36mm narrower track because of this.

To push out the wheel, you have to add a spacer. In terms of positive offsets, it is wheel offset minus spacer thickness = new cumulative offset. So... 50mm (a5) minus 20mm (spacer) gives you a new offset of 30mm, so the wheels will be pushed out to the outside by about 8mm per side.

When dealing with negative offsets, you add them together, because now the mounting surface is moving away from the wheel center line.

Back to the gasser world
I made a conversion from the stock 5x100 to 5x112 on my 98 Beetle.

This is what I did:
- Acquired a set of spacers+adapters in 20mm from www.adaptitusa.com
- purchased 20 Honda lugnuts
- rented a torque wrench from Autozone + 5.5 mm alan wrench,
- completed the conversion in 1hr or so...

With this adapter you convert from the lug bolts to the lugnuts (view the pics here http://public.fotki.com/euromade/wheel_conversion/)

After adding these adapters I gained about 26mm of track both front and back. I'm using a set of stock 205/55 16s without any rubing. I guess I could have added a wider adapter maybe 25 or 30mm but did not want risk it as these adapters are made to order and no returns).

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO GET THESE HONDA LUGNUTS as they are the only one that are NOT CONE shaped. They are round at the bottom so whey fit tight on the rim. You can find similar lugnuts in Autozone but none of the stores I called had 20 in stock so I had to go to the dealer where I got them at cost as these lug nuts are for the older hondas (mid 90s) ~$2.30/piece Autozone was ~$2/piece but I'd burn more diesel and time to collect all 20 from 4 stores in town.

These are hub centric adapter and they fit very nice and tight.

If you have any questions pls. contact me.

The reason behind this conversion was:
1. I got a great deal on a set of 06 Jetta wheels+ Michelin tires
2. Old rims will go on my winter tires.

P.S. I think the old, stock rims, had a 43 mm offset wihile the new ones are at 50mm. if my math is correct think I've added 26mm to my overall track width.
