Hey friends,

I am going to be replacing my DMF and clutch pack soon as my DMF has started to rattle.
My question is what else should I replace while I am in the transmission area?
I was planning on DMF, Clutch pack, Rear main, and DSG fluid. is there anything else I should do while I'm in there?

Thanks ya'll

If opening / rebuilding a transmission, I think you need around 8L of fluid. A drain and refill is around 5. Other than that, you named it.

Pilot bearing should be included with the clutch kit. Check with your vendor to confirm.
I don’t see it on the website in the pictures of the “DSG clutch Repair kit” it’s got the clutch “cover”, clutch pack, and a whole lot of what look snap rings?

The pilot bearing usually comes with the DMF, some people ignore to change it.

I would rent the VW pilot bearing tool to remove it
Where would I rent one of those? I have access to Snapon and Mac tools and Cornwell as well so I could buy the right tool if needed. But renting would be better haha.

Just looked at my DMF I’m going to order, it does come with the bearing.

Yeah - sorry. My bad on the terminology - I was thinking manual transmission. And the DMF usually gets replaced along with a new clutch, the whole package of which will include the small bits such as pilot bearing.

If what the repair manual calls for my passat, I believe it would be the same for other calls.

You could try the old bread/grease trick to get the pilot bearing out.
I tried that, that little sucker didn't budge at all. I rented an Autozone puller kit and had to remove one of the hook and wedge another tool to remove my pilot bearing.
