Another 2006 DSG DMF problem at 67,000 miles; I have E-mailed VW customer care and talked to a couple dealers about the known problem. I have gotten no-where. Any ideas who I should write my next letter to?
Thanks for listening,

I hope someone knows your answer. I did a car fax on my car and found my DMF was changed out at about 40,000. Seems it cut loose and took out the trans.
I think mine is making the tell-tail noises. I would expect VW to stand behind their "repair". The service mgr. said repairs were warranted for 10,000 miles or 90 days (or something like that.)

Mine car is at 115K.

I have one in the shop for the DMF, this is the worse one I have heard, matter of fact..I recomended that the owner not drive it..It is loud, and sounds serious, like it could go any time..I was hoping it didnt let go while were listening to it..

Seperates a $1500 job from a $7000 job..

I have been acquiring quite a few 06 pkg. 2s lately from new car trade-ins via auctions nationwide. I of course, have my professional buyers go over the vehicles prior and check for previous paint work and such while I check out other pertinent areas such as CarFax and servicing dealer's service history. I also pay $140 for a 14 day post sale inspection (PSI) provided by the auctions which gives you 14 days to counter if you get a passing result and discover an overlooked issue. I also contact the arbitration departments of these auctions prior or be sure someone in the auction's customer service department notes to have the inspector carefully listen to the DMF and if noise is present, the vehicle needs to be kicked. If the vehicle is kicked, it is then up to the seller and myself to negotiate an adjustment. When a $1500 adjustment is demanded by me and the seller refuses, that vehicle has to now run through the auction in an "as is" status which will generally result in quite a bit less money over the auction block unless dealer's such as Nice Cars or Green Car Company happens to be present, if you know what I mean.

I do make this fact clear to the seller but, some are so deep in the vehicle, they would lose too much money so they end up attempting to off the vehicle to some other less knowledgeable entity and which will most likely end up being acquired by a poor sap on the retail end of the spectrum . I had one arrive with a noise so far from Dallas and the auction is now sending me a check for $1550 for their oversight. I have three more pkg. 2s coming in and I will do the same thing if I discover noise because all three are under that 14 day PSI I refer to above and all were forewarned to be diligent during inspection. Bottom line here is, many of these A5s have this DMF issue and therefore one must be sure to check it out before buying and negotiate as needed. Yes, this means VW CPOs as well even though they should be covered under the 2/24. Any questions? Later!

What's the DMF replacement like? I have replaced a clutch twice (bad replacement release bearing) including flywheel on a FWD V6 Mazda. Also helped my father with a T56 6spd swapped into his automatic '96 Impala. Just curious how much different/more difficult this sort of job would be if I am unlucky enough to have to replace the DMF on our '09. Any special tools/procedures needed for a DMF?

I replaced my DMF at 68k miles. It rattled only when cold for about 2 minutes... I did not bother calling - writing - visiting the dealer or VW of America

It really depends on if your lucky or not. I wasn't and it was a ......

I've posted this same response for someone else that asked.
The DMF is made up 2 halves. When mine failed, it got stuck. So far no one else has mentioned this happening to them on here.
Because it was stuck, the bolt holes in the outer half didn't line up with the bolts attaching the main part to the crank.

Just look at the picture. I had to cut the center section out to get at the bolts.

Good luck

I should know within the next day or so whether I need to replace my DMF. Can you replace it with a single flywheel on an 6 Jetta TDI DSG? If so, what difference would it make as far as coast and drive-ability?
