I have been acquiring quite a few 06 pkg. 2s lately from new car trade-ins via auctions nationwide. I of course, have my professional buyers go over the vehicles prior and check for previous paint work and such while I check out other pertinent areas such as CarFax and servicing dealer's service history. I also pay $140 for a 14 day post sale inspection (PSI) provided by the auctions which gives you 14 days to counter if you get a passing result and discover an overlooked issue. I also contact the arbitration departments of these auctions prior or be sure someone in the auction's customer service department notes to have the inspector carefully listen to the DMF and if noise is present, the vehicle needs to be kicked. If the vehicle is kicked, it is then up to the seller and myself to negotiate an adjustment. When a $1500 adjustment is demanded by me and the seller refuses, that vehicle has to now run through the auction in an "as is" status which will generally result in quite a bit less money over the auction block unless dealer's such as Nice Cars or Green Car Company happens to be present, if you know what I mean.
I do make this fact clear to the seller but, some are so deep in the vehicle, they would lose too much money so they end up attempting to off the vehicle to some other less knowledgeable entity and which will most likely end up being acquired by a poor sap on the retail end of the spectrum . I had one arrive with a noise so far from Dallas and the auction is now sending me a check for $1550 for their oversight. I have three more pkg. 2s coming in and I will do the same thing if I discover noise because all three are under that 14 day PSI I refer to above and all were forewarned to be diligent during inspection. Bottom line here is, many of these A5s have this DMF issue and therefore one must be sure to check it out before buying and negotiate as needed. Yes, this means VW CPOs as well even though they should be covered under the 2/24. Any questions? Later!
