So I decided to do a diy…. I used one of the universal cold airs and then used the bottom half of the stock box and sealed the top half over the cold air. I have noticed increased power and suction on the snorkel over the stock air filter with the box. Is the increased suction safe for the motor/turbo over the stock filter as I had to jam the filter in the stock box lol. my guess is that suction is only at the bottom and top corners I also wrapped the piping and snorkel with heat wrap too.

is it safe to keep this as is or do I need to reduce suction pressure by getting a filter that fits properly in the bottom box?

Umm... is it safe? No, the "cold air intake" isn't a good idea for your car. Regardless of if it has the box thing on it or not.
They foul up the maf sensor and allow a bunch of dust into the intake which damage the turbo.

Seems more like a placebo than anything with results. The factory air box is about as good as it gets, larger cone/filter area, draws cold air from fender so if anything, a larger pipe may be better than factory but sometimes a larger pipe is counter productive to its purpose. I’ve seen some that has forced air from underneath the car into air box but they never changed the cone, just a way to get more air into box
