I actually see this process. They come by freighter to Port. Aransas Tx the windmills are off loaded at a huge staging area where a dozen or so specially made trailers and diesel trucks are parked to haul them when ready. Once loaded they drive through Aransas Pass. I call it Aransas Passhole. then south down Hwy 35 to the Coastal plains. They haul heavy equipment including large tracked cranes to install them . so they have to build a road to the site in the middle of a cotton field . I believe they make the road out of large wooden mats consistent with the oil industry when they set up a drilling rig, which they truck all this in by Semi Of course before this happens they excavate a huge hole in the ground and pour a huge concrete foundation which they bolt the base in place. These windmills are massive so it takes considerable planning and resources to set one up. It takes about six to eight trips per windmill to transport by Semi. So Im thinking now they probably burn closer to 40-50 thousand gallons of diesel to transport and install one windmill. Im so glad were saving the planet with windmills !

And the government subsidies given to big business to develop these windmills allow the power companies to sell the wind power at negative pricing and still make a profit.

not to mention the laws put in place that require power producers to yank their coal plants all around (never a design criteria) to account for the ebbs and flows of the wind. Cause it’s never on forecast. Wind “power” is to flow and coal/gas/diesel/combined cycle etc is to bow when the wind is abobe

Wind and solar on a commercial scale is a throw away product, only here to bridge the gap to a new power source. The amount of acres required per MW is laughable. Let’s go down the path of nuclear with today’s technology applied.

And why won’t America actually walk the walk of conservation vs just talk. I am very thankful to be born here, but man some of our priorities make me shake my head in disgust.

But, interesting reading....
Over 550 coal fired plants have been decommissioned over the last 20 years. (most were totally demolished)
Some were replaced with Natural Gas.
Some retrofitted with Natural Gas.
Consumers are paying for the long term Bonds on all of the above.
No new Nuke plants in the foreseeable future.
Seems there are 7 Nuke plants scheduled to be shut-down.
Rolling black-outs are in our future ....... with the inability to pump TDI Fuel...

Something odd here . Cheniere Energy based in Portland Texas 20 minutes from where I live is exporting trillions of metric tons of LNG overseas to China and worldwide. Their plant has what are called trains which convert natural gas to a liquid. Therefore LNG is Liquid Natural Gas which they load on specialized freighters that ship world wide. I actually built some of the aluminum substructures that they use in the trains for cooling natural gas. Its all going overseas

What happened? I thought this thread was all about poisoning the neighborhood pets, not bemoaning the advent of a sustainable energy sector. :)

If you think rolling coal on fellow motorists is obnoxious, check out what this rude bro did:

Yeah it did. Not so bad if you got in a few years ago, though. Up something close to 100% so far this year, at least.
Well I think it dropped to around 100 bucks months ago. I believe at one time it was around 450 now its around 190. Good day trading stock it goes up 2.5 to 10% some times daily and in the negative. They seem to be way ahead of other EV manufactures. Also it looks like a good long term investment . I am not an expert on investing . Just read the news thats what moves a stock. Not fundamentals or technicals . Just news !

It topped out around $400, but the entire market was way overcooked at that point. People throwing money at stock of companies going through bankruptcy, buying cartoon images of apes and such. The signs were there.

Well, everyone is getting into the EV business . Ford , GM, Toyota , Porsche , BMW , VW . All major car manufactures. China is a big one too for EV's. The biggest winner will be the company that comes up with the most efficient car battery that charges quickly and goes long range . Thats your next Google

Damn, what an unfortunate accident. I watch accident clips on YouTube occasionally, that one ranks up there with the worst I've seen.

23 years ago, a friend of mine said that Dollar General was going to start a major building program nationwide. He had just become a broker. The stock was around $12 at the time. DG stock is now around $205............... no, I dumped a crap load in dot com stock and lost my arse during the bubble burst. Well, hopefully DG will start putting in Diesel Pumps in the near future.... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

The was a crazy crash.
I did not see that coming.
Maybe it will give cops an idea of how to stop cars during a chase, ha.

That was a pretty insane wreck. The wayward tire even came back to smack the Kia again after flipping it 10 ft in the air. Looks almost like a Hollywood stunt accident. That Kia held up well though. Hopefully the occupants walked away okay, if a bit dazed.

That dot.com burst was a doozie. Took like 8 years for the market to recover. I had bought a couple shares of Apple with some money my godparents had gifted me for graduation a few years prior. Not enough to retire on by any means, but I still have them. That was back when you got paper stock certificates. I think the small bank run we saw a couple weeks ago got a lot of people nervous. That sort of panic contagion is pretty scary when it gets out of hand.

Oh man, burn barrels!! My buddy and I, around 12 years of age, were told to go start the barrels. It was just starting to rain, used too much gas, only had a bic lighter.

I reached down to light it, Next thing I knew, me and Shane were on our backs looking at the sky. Armhair singed, bangs.....gone, eyebrows gone!! We were blown back about 3-5’

Crazy experience!!

And the moral of this story is, do not tell the 12 year-olds to light a burn-barrel without showing them proper technique first... y’all are lucky

It wasn’t our first time, the rain got us and then too much gas/fumes. The lighter only sparked. You’re right though, very lucky!!

I'm so old that when I was a kid the matches didn't strike on the back of the cover.
They had the striker on the front.

So when I was asked/told to light the burn barrel,
I struck the match with the book open and a spark from the match hit the rest of the matches.
They all went off and fried my hand before I could drop it.

Years later when I saw a matchbook with the striker on the back I knew why.
Thought, "A little late hehe".
