For those who are fine with using Shell Rotella T6 5w40 in their ALH TDI, Home Depot has gallon jugs at 23.78.
At least in the northeast this is a very solid price. Seems to be their "normal" price, but am finding its going out of stock i multiple stores, so get it while it lasts! For comparison, I just bought some Pentosin and 5 Liter was 44.95. So 1 gallon = 3.78 liter, so its about $34 when you compare against pentosin. As well as other synth brands in the gallon or 5 liter containers.
Nevermind that it seems harder to find top quality synth oils currently, likely due to diminished natural gas supplies.

If the bottle or can does not state (written on it) "507.00 approved" use something else, a little more $ however not a high priced item in a life of the TDI PS do not accept what the manufacture says or post on their site, if not on bottle use something else.

that C[H,I,J,K]-4 qualifying standard oil is fine for rotary distributor pump engines which are 2003 and before (if in doubt, read the post). This Rotella qualifies. I've been using it for the last 100,000 miles in my ALH engine 2003 TDI. It's good enough. More important is to change the oil and filter often.

Thanks for the links. I also use shell Rotella or Mobil 1. Also for the trucks that I use for agricultural purposes, I use Oil for Cummins 6.7, here is a good oil for powerful engines and for different weather conditions

My 2014 Sportwagen requires 507 due to the DPF etc. and shouldn't use 505 as far as I have researched. Is there some info on this product elsewhere that shows it is truly 507?

you snooze you lose, amazon finally figured out there was something off with the pricing, because the cheaper 505 oil had the higher price, the same thing happened with the Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL 507.00 oil at walmart a few months ago where it was selling for $21 for 5qts

Castrol edge 5w30 LL has been discontinued by Castrol according to the Castrol customer service department. New product rolling out is….
Castrol euro car 5w30K. It will carry the vw504/507 approval. I assume that’s why it’s out of stock most places.

The Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 (VW 507) has been $27-$33 at some of the chain auto parts places. Not sure if it also qualifies for the Mobil 1 $10 per 5qt rebate.

I just used my google-foo and found 5W-30 ESP. That appears to be 507 rated?
