Alrighty - my virgin post. Just got my first TDI, and I love it.
2010 TDI Jetta - 6 speed manual. 84K.
A few questions for the gurus:
1st gear from a stop has some resistance, like something is in the way. If I shift into 2nd, THEN 1st it slides right in like butter (still at a stop.) Also - when I'm moving it seems going into 2nd has a TINY bit of resistance as well, but it's not really that noticeable, more like I can just feel the gears mesh a little. All the other gears are like butter. Do you think it just needs some adjusting, or maybe the 1st clutch is going at 84K? It's not a big deal, but I'd like to fix it if it's not that bad of a fix. I'm hoping the original owner didn't chew up the tranny any.
I really don't want to start ripping it apart and checking things though - I just got it and I'm trying to keep everything done by VW, since it seems that's how she's been treated thus far. I know these things are crazy complicated, and I'm used to my simple old '62 aircooled.
Also - after she's running pretty hot, from sitting in traffic for a long time, or just running a good while it seems the engine doesn't run quite 100% smooth - I know diesel engines aren't the smoothest running engines in the world - but it seems to have a little bit of a shake every few seconds... or maybe I'm just imagining it... It's not something I can really hear - I can just feel the shake here and there, and it seems off. I don't recall it doing that when I start her up - or when she hasn't been running for a pretty long time. Is that normal?
Thanks in advance, and I'm happy to be a part of the forums...
