I am new to the forum. What (if any) is the difference between the two platforms in terms of replacing the timing belt on the TDI? Is the process basically the same, or are there any (significant) procedure differences between them. I am coming up to 90K and want to know what to expect

Thanks
:)

Same question

I have an 06 and a good friend has an 04. We both need our timing belts and were going to split the cost of the tools and change them. I have been looking through the forums daily and would like some clarification....
Is there a difference between the A4 tb change and the A5?
Can I use the same A4 instructions that are in the forums?
The tools will be same?

A4 Golf/Jetta/NB came with two engines the ALH and the BEW (04-early 05). The A5 comes with BRM.

Only the BEW and BRM engines are similar enough to share tools and procedure, with the exception (as noted) of the crank pulley. It is marked differently for locking position and there's a different tool to accommodate that. Use the BEW procedure, not the ALH.
