Just had my 2011 Golf repaired using the warranty. It had several codes for the DPF and P2015 for the intake manifold.

In eight days they replaced the intake manifold, DPF, and DPF flap.

Heck yeah!

His 6MT got 54 mos or 54K miles, whichever came first. So if it was done at the end of the diesel fix program in Dec 2018, the warranty would be expiring soon in Apr/Jun '23 if the mileage wasn't exceeded already. OP's worth about $4K in dealer list repair work. Should be good for a while now. --g

I've had my DPF replaced twice under the Dieselgate warranty when I had it. Probably 10k in warranty repairs. I definitely wouldn't buy one of these without that warranty in place and if I did it would get deleted immediately.

Here's a readout of how they determine it:


The Approved Emissions Modification Extended Warranty period for 2009-2014 model year vehicles will be the greater of:

(a) 4 years or 48,000 miles, whichever comes first, from date and mileage of implementing the Emissions Modification, except for vehicles offered for resale, in which case from the date and mileage of the first resale transaction after the modification to the first person who in good faith purchases the vehicle for purposes other than resale, or

(b) 10 years or 120,000 actual miles from the initial date of purchase (whichever comes first).

For 2015 model year vehicles, the warranty period will be the greater of:

(a) 11 years or 162,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s original in-service date; OR

(b) 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date and mileage of Phase 1 of the emissions modification. At the time of the subsequent Phase 2 modification, the extended warranty will be honored for 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date and mileage of the completion of Phase 2.

I don't know about your CPO warranty, but the extended emissions warranty due to the diesel fix ran concurrently with the original 126 month/126K mile TDI emission warranty as described on the VW Emissions Modification Lookup page:

Extended Emissions Warranty Information*:​

The vehicle has an Extended Emissions Warranty that runs for 10 years 6 months or 126,000 miles from the original in-service date. Please see your VW dealership for additional information including the vehicle's in-service date.​

In addition, and concurrently, the Extended Emissions Warranty runs for 4 years 6 months or 54,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of modification or first dealer resale post-modification. Your vehicle was modified on Sep 21, 2017 and 119,809 miles. Please see your VW dealership for additional information on the vehicle's post-modification dealer re-sale date.​

So, in our case, our extended emissions warranty expired due to date rather than mileage in March '22. --g

It sounds like your car fell under the 4 years from time of emissions modification, otherwise you would've been out by now given it's a MY2011... none the less glad you got those items covered... I had to fight with my local dealer to get the intercooler covered recently

I had my 11 JSW repaired under the warranty last year: 4 times. I calculate about 10k worth of repairs, all at no cost to me other than riding my bike to and from the dealer. Other than one ride when (unknown to me) there was a tornado watch, I love riding my bikes so there was no loss there.

I also feel very good about the way I was treated with the warranty and the entire Dieselgate process in general! My VW Dealer fixed a number of things for me that would have cost quite a bit of money. Of course VW also paid me quite a bit of money to just keep driving the car!

Most recently, however, I paid the same dealer $5K $3900 for a new clutch. I'm okay with that, because I trust their work and I'm still driving my 2010 Golf TDI with 195K miles! I also just bought a very low-mileage 2019 Golf R ("the race car")! I'll be taking the Golf R to the same dealer for maintenance. I hope to keep driving both cars for a very long time.

Note: Edited to fix the price of the new clutch. It was "only" $3900, not $5K at the dealer.

You'd be saving a considerable amount of money by finding a good Euro shop to have your R serviced at rather than the dealer, fwiw

I wonder about that sometimes, even with the TDI, but I don't have confidence in the shops I've found except for one diesel specialist that's a 2-hour drive each way. I did use that distant shop for special work, like the CP3 pump installation. And I'm planning to use them again for some things, but it's a long drive and it can become an issue if the car takes more than one day to fix. Then hotels/motels come into the conversation.

The VW dealer is the closest shop to me, just 2 or 3 miles from my home. The other thing is the warranty. That just ended for the TDI, but I have 4-years for the 2019 Golf R. Maybe after the warranty period I'll reconsider, but I trust the dealer to get things fixed properly. I also wonder how much I'd really save. I gotchya, yea I suppose if you can't find a reliable Euro shop close by and you already have a dealership that treats you well and that you trust, then that may just be the way to go. Being under warranty is obviously something you'd be taking it to the dealership for as well so that helps.
Was just a thought! I go to a local Euro shop that I trust and they've always done right by me. The only time I've ever taken my car to the dealership was for warranty work but that's over an hour away. So it looks like we're in opposite situations hah

My MKVII is in for a DPF and damper code right now. They're doing the Phase 2 modification at 147,000 miles. I commented about the extension of 5 years/60,000 miles and they told me their TDI specialist said that only triggers on Phase 1, but not Phase 2. Based one what I'm reading, they're incorrect.

On one hand, I would be okay with the warranty finally running out and letting me feel better about tuning in the near future, but on the other hand, that warranty covers quite a bit up to 207,000 miles if they're honoring what is written.

Putting off the tune just guaranties excessive/expensive engine and component wear. Also guaranties extra needless repair and "hope" you can find capable service.

Who needs a warranty when you don't have a problem. IMO get the covered issues out of the way and get a quality tune. Gotta ask why the 300k+ ALH's are still running

Jellow, that is something I have thought about over the years I've owned this car, too. So far, I've really not had any issues, and I know I'd be getting rid of the faulty items to do it properly.

In Dec? 2023 we had a P2015 code and they changed some intake manifold piece on warranty. Car is a 2014 and has 178k kms.
I just did the belts and related parts changes today. I think it would have gone to 200k kms no problem.
What's involved in the tune you guys are talking about?

Our 2013 (bought used w/180K on it) was retrofitted at 81k. We now have 205k on it. But, it has been tuned and certain items deleted. It has the DSG, and even when rolling at 20 MPH, nail it, and it will still break the tires free.

I live in an area that only does safety inspections. If a car has the MIL or CEL light on, it still passes.

Where did you go to get yours deleted and what was the cost? I’m looking at deleting mine too bc of a SECOND round of this DEF bs! Car will not start in another 10 miles and I’ve replace the guts in the def tank twice since owning the car in 4 years.

I’ve got 191k on mine and want to delete it so that I can stop having def issues. Can you point me in the right direction to get it deleted? I live in Texas if that helps you guide me…?
