I'm trying to figure out exactly when my diesel gate warranty will expire. I know it's 10 years after what? Initial purchase date or mfg date? I checked the vin on the warranty info page on VW.com but it just shows my car received the repair oct2018. I purchased it second hand , nov 2018. Not sure what the original sale date is but think I got a Carfax that shows it from the used car lot I got it from.

@Drclaw -- The original emissions warranty ran for 10 years from the in-service date or 120K miles -- the extended emissions warranty due to dieselgate runs concurrently, so that the emissions warranty in effect is the greater/longer of the two. Your local VW service advisor can look up the in-service date for the VIN (along with all the PR codes) -- though your Carfax should indicate this, too, as the initial sales date. --g

There are just too many to list....
You can often guess as to the close in-service date based on the manufactured date on the tag in the door jam. If it was a Mexican or American built car, it was usually sold within a month or two of then. Something that came from Europe usually will be closer to three months. Most TDIs didn't sit on dealer lots for very long.

I think this is where I previously saw a date because I've been using April 2024 as a notional date.

There's a website where you can plug in the VIN. We got lucky; the 2011 JSW I had my girlfriend buy is covered for a hair over 5,000 miles. Just enough for me to get the flywheel done (because I'm not pulling a 200+ pound DSG in triple digit heat), drive back and head straight to the dealer for a new DPF (because it's bad).

@Drclaw -- In our case, the ELSA record for our MY11 SportWagen shows MX production date 30 Aug 2010 & delivery (sales) date 12 Feb 2011; VWoA used the Feb 2011 date for our corrosion warranty claim that was submitted initially in Jan '22 and completed in Apr '23. --g

I believe that's it, and it should tell you how long your warranty is good for, from the date/mileage you got the mod done. I was lucky and the PO at some point did it in I think 2020 or 2021. Otherwise, I would've recycled the DPF.

@Drclaw -- If the VW site shows the emissions mod was done in Oct '18, you're well past the dieselgate warranty now (ended Oct '22 for AT, Apr '23 for 6MT). If you're still under 120K miles, you need to determine the date the car was first sold (that is, its "in-service" date) for the original emissions warranty -- your local service advisor (or Carfax) can tell you that. --g

Correct, the website does not tell you the original in-service date. Which is dumb, because they obviously have that information, why they didn't just put that into that warranty check is beyond me. Still lots of 2014 and 2015s (and a smattering of 2016 V6s) that will still be under the 10+ year warranty for a bit yet.

Concur with your observations. I'm only at 86k so the time from in service will be the gating factor for me

I tried putting my vin in on the website, however, all it says is:
“This VIN is not part of the VW diesel settlement.”

Is this because my Jetta is a manual ? Seems to only show information when you put an automatic TDI VIN in. Would this mean the software on my car was never changed?

its possible yours was never fixed yes, but i dont think the trannsmission has anything to do with it. to the best of my knowledge you could opt to do nothing and some did. my friends neighbor has a 2012 jsw he bought new, i asked him if it was fixed once and he had no clue what i was asking about....

I noticed in your other thread that you had TDI Warranty. As long as the dealer says you have TDI warranty, I wouldnt worry about what the website says. Because at the end of the day, as long as they see that its active on their end, thats all that matters.

Silly as it sounds, did you enter all the letters capitalized? (that website is case sensitive for the VIN)
