VW contact

So the answer is no. The VW web site has the proposed agreement but my question concerns direct contact from VW to owners.

Direct contact won't happen until after the court hearings in late March, and the roll out of the program begins.

Right now, all we can do is decide if we opt out of the settlement or not. March 4 is the deadline. The deadline is the same to submit an objection to the settlement.

You should have got the short form notification by email in first week of Jan. Check your Spam folder, that's where mine was. It's not from a VW email address.

Do we know this is in fact true? Just asking.
Safe to assume this, as the matter is before the courts and VW has entered into an agreement. To be precise, I don't think we will receive any notice from the court appointed administrators until said dates unless something major happens.

Not true. VW is obligated to contact all TDI owners with a known email or snail mail address. It's being done by Ricepoint , the court appointed administrator. They also published the notification in newspapers in the first week of January.

If you didn't get an email (check your spam folder) nor a mailed notification then they do not have up-to-date address for you or Ricepoint is not doing its job properly.

Since you only have until March 4 to opt out or object (which is before the settlement is finalized) they are obliged to try their best to contact you before that. If this concerns you (remember everything they have officially announced is on the website) then you can update your email and postal address on the website (I do not know if that will trigger a notification being sent)

That is kinda what I am getting at.
I received the email....
But I somehow cant see how a judge or a lawyer would agree to a deal where the owner of a car must decide the sale of their car before the price is known without some type of a formal notice that shows a very narrow range if not an accurate number.

This is, entirely 100%, what is sounds like we are being asked to do...

Call the lawyers and ask their opinion on it...

What lawyers do you call exactly? I tried a couple of times some number I googled, receptionist picked up, I told her what I am calling about, she transferred me and I, as expected, left a voicemail. Never heard back ... I can't bother keep calling and leaving messages.

You actually spoke to someone, or they called you back?

Called me back.

I called the number in the long form notice - 1-866-881-2292 and left a message.

This was the week after the documents were available.

Bingo! As Trump would tweet, "What kind of lame deal is this? Very sad!"

This was posted to the Facebook page a couple of days ago ICYMI.

Got a feeling the judge will agree with 10,000 +/- TDI owners who will likely feel the current settlement is lacking in detail and is therefore unreasonable.

Well, I think that there are enough arguments to substantiate a strong objection to the proposed settlement, if enough of us send the forms before the deadline.

I hope the judge reads Facebook so we'll get treated fairly........

I plan on objecting before mar 4 if we don't have more info published from VW/the courts about what our "offer" amounts to.

Facebook speculation and opinions and the same here are still pure speculation.

My car is indicating that it needs to be serviced now. (I ignored the previous warnings).

I have no choice but to drive the car between now and the end of the settlement. I fully intend on accepting the buyback.

Should I get the maintenance done? This is the 105,000km service (Oil change, tire rotation, inspection.)

If I don't get it done, I'm concerned about the following:

1. It'll be used as an excuse to lower the buyback value or to give me other difficulties with the buyback process.

2. Last oil change was done 15,000km ago. Oil level is fine, however if the engine has a catastrophic failure, I will no longer be qualified for the buyback.

I have Performance Plus coverage, which will not cover the blown engine if I don't do the scheduled maintenance.

Can I get some opinions and suggestions?

You are still driving the car, so regular maintenance is a must, IMO.

I don't think that you have to do it at a dealership. Just as long as you can demonstrate that it got done.

Get it done.
Im about to schedule mtce within a week or so...I'll be also fixing my hand brake and drive belt. Last thing I would want to happen is the car breaking in half in the middle of the hwy or worse getting into an accident because of the car's failure.

Thanks for the advice!
I'll head to Oil Changers today to get it done. I won't give the dealership the satisfaction at this point in the process.

I was planning on parking this car until this buyback situation gets resolved, but my other vehicle decided to break a differential.

I skipped 30k maintenance on my 2014 passat tdi cause i didnt think buyback is gonna take this long and it was pretty expensive ($670 for oil change and inspections). Now i drove almost 40k and might have to do 45k maintenance in a few months. I know i gotta do it but feel like its wasting of money as i will return the vehicle not long after expensive maintenance.

Thing is, you're still under warranty so I'm not sure how deferred maintenance will play out if you have to make a claim. That's one reason why I've kept the maintenance up. Another is, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the vehicle.

Wow !! $670 seems pretty steep for 30Kms service. I used my loyalty card on my service and I think it ran me around $270.00. Fuel filter, oil change and filter. I bought the def fluid myself , don't feel like being ripped off every visit when they put in a liter and charge me $25 for a top up. I would still however do the maintenance req'd if I were you. It'll be awhile before cars start getting bought back...

Yeah i think i should do the next one. I live in Edmonton and two edmonton dealerships asked $670. If calgary is cheaper i will probably drive there for the maintenance. 670 is ridiculously expensive for minor inspections and oil change.

I'm not 100% sure but even if the car is still under warranty, I think that you can get the service done at an indy shop for a better price. So long as the work done covers whatever is required for that particular millage service.

I thought for some reason that we were supposed to hear something today, Jan. 20? Was I imagining it?

Delays into March are bordering on ridiculous. Is there any talk about a protest action? I'm game to drive my car over to VW Canada Head Office for a bit of civil disobedience.

I'm just over 180,000kms on my Golf. I've delayed my timing belt in anticipation of a buyback but it looks like we're going to have to keep waiting.

Not sure if I should go to the dealer and spend the rest of my Goodwill card (I have about $300 left) on the timing belt or go to an independent? What's a timing belt change cost, dealer vs. independent?

EDIT: Okay, I just read the Jan. 4 announcement. I didn't get the email on that but found it on the settlement site. Still seems very vague and completely unfair to VW owners. Life doesn't stand still while VW and the courts settle this thing.

Next big piece of news should be out in one week's time. Jan 27 is the deadline for VW to submit the proposed fix for the Generation 1 engines (2009-2014 Jetta, Golf, Wagon, Bettle) in the US.

My 2009 jetta highline is over 300k, rusty and more that e few "peculiarities".

VW is getting it back and I would consider getting another, newer, used one with lower mileage. I think that the market will be flooded and the prices drop considerably.

Will VW be allowed to sell these turned in, traded in cars domestically? I'm in the KW area and there are 4 dealers close-by.

Or similarly, anyone planning on taking the buyout and selling privately?

Don't count on it. There's no way these vehicles will be allowed to remain in the domestic market without a fix. And, the EPA in the States has already stated that they will not export the problem. I suspect Canada would follow suit.

In any event, why would you want to do business with this company after all this b.s.

I'm not going to hold my breath that a Jan. 27 announcement in the U.S. is going to give us any satisfaction. It's incredible how the Canadian courts just sit back and allow these delays with absolutely no regard to the rights of consumers.

March 31 before anything definite. Then how long before we actually see a cheque? It will probably be 2 years since the scandal broke.

VW is not allowed to resell the returned TDIs unless they have been "fixed".
If there is no fix for the Gen1 cars then they will most likely be crushed.
So these cars may become increasingly rare.
