$37208 to buyback. (stupid 6MT)
$9480 to fix.
I wouldn't count on the values in the US calculator being converted to Canadian dollars though.

If there were buybacks, I think it would be fair to use the US dollar exchange rate on the day the car was purchased.

Not gonna happen, but I think it would be logical and reasonable if that's what they were ordered to do.

And I totally agree with the previous sentiments about the dealers. They are in no way to be blamed for this. They are just as much victims as we are, maybe even more so in some ways. I love my local dealership: great service, great salespeople, and they go out of their way to be helpful. Its a shame about the company that they represent though.

KMs to Miles

Excellent idea to document the value of our cars in the U.S. deal - just remember to convert to miles first! My initial calculation had a $2k mileage deduction before I realized this. :)

Buyback for my 2013 Golf with 80,000 kms (50,000 miles) is $21,557 U.S. or $28,412 Canadian. That's almost exactly double what the dealership offered me for a trade-in a few months ago.

Realistically, even if they do offer a buyback and even if they do convert to CAD (unlikely), it would make more sense to use the exchange rate from when I bought the car, which was closer to par - not sure how they would work that though to produce tables like in the U.S. deal. Maybe use an average conversion for each year.

Suddenly, it looks like the goal of 1000 members isn't all that crazy after all.
We are just south of 150 now.

I usually don't give a damn about Facebook groups but this one is actually important, and it seems like many others feel the same way.

Pretty amazing that from the small group of people here waiting for info on July 29 ended up pushing enough to get news stories on CBC and a pretty decent Facebook group to share info with other owners as well.

Not to mention this all started with a simple email to CBC Market place, and the turn around was extremely fast. Awesome stuff!

Its thanks to CBC that we are getting some traction now. Started out just thinking "I'm doing this because its the only option I have left, and I refuse to sit back and do nothing". And now, we are actually getting somewhere. Keep it up!

I don't think it's as simple as converting the US settlement from $US to $Cdn whether at today's rate or purchase date or Sept 2015 date. It's fair to use Canadian values from the start. Should be Canadian retail value as of Sept 2015 (before values took the hit due to Dieselgate). To be equivalent to the US settlement it would be a clean trade in value (is that the Canadian Black Book value?) and maybe we can't expect the retail value.

True. When we purchased I don't even think the new prices at the time were just the Canadian equivalent of what the US cars were priced at.

I wonder who's great Idea it was to start a FB page*cough cough* lol.... Just playing guys!

Our next step to cause some publicity for our cause and bad publicity for Volkswagen would be to get some stickers made for our cars about Das Pölluten or whatever. Imagine the visual of a reporter holding up a sticker with our message and telling viewers to go to our FB page to get their sticker? Our FaceBook page would blow up hardcore...

Let's start up a discussion about a sticker logo that everyone could get behind, get a design made, and then find some local vinyl shops (provide a list on the Facebook group page/on this forum) that can produce the stickers. Great idea :).
