Slow down there cowboy....
- the fix will NOT be mandatory... there is literally NO way the government is going to force a member of the public to modify something against thier will, particularly when the government has not themselves done a lick against VW at all.... so you can kee pyour car if you like. Just don't expect any money.
- the overall 'award' for each car doesn't change overtime, only over mileage. Are you sure you aren't looking at the value the portal is giving you for trade? That would be different now than 2 months ago. Are you sure you aren't looking at the value after they pay off your loans? And finally, are you sure your in service dates are close? Also, the province makes a big difference too...
- don't waste your time trying to find any kind of chart, calculation, reference, smoke signal or anything else related to where the numbers came from. They don't exist. The lawyers don't have them. No one has them. Except maybe VW.... and there's no way they are going to be released....
- And finally.... unfortunately, you can't do anything about it.... Too late to opt out.... and you can't go to arbritration over the value unless you think there was a calculation error... in a calculation that you aren't privy too... Oh, and you have to file a $150 fee to EVEN go to arbitration... which you lose if you don't win the case.
Go back into the portal and review everything that you entered... even if you were in a lower milage category than your buddy, becuase you had slightly more km's or something like that - the difference between values should only be a couple grand max.
Thank you for the reply ecode.
1. It's the government, they force you to do things you don't want to do on a daily basis. They add new items, fees, taxes when ever they want and this will be no different. Though bi-laws, taxes and licencing the government gets the public to do just about what ever they want.
Once the fix is approved it will be made mandatory and enforce via licencing. You won't be able to renew your sticker unless it passes emissions (I live in Ontario). It won't pass emissions unless the fix has been applied. Don't have the fix on your car and you will not be allowed to renew your sticker. The entire drive clean program is a sham to being with and it will be used as a way to enforce the mandatory fix.
2. IN the portal the trade in value and the buy back value are the same, both 15k. I currently have the same mileage as my buddy had on his car when he took the buyback 146,000k We have the same trim (comfort line).
I initially looked into this and started to fill out the website info when he got his money 3 month's ago and it was showing the same buy back value as it is now. I tried putting in less km just to see what it would do and the value is the same from 90,000km to 146,000km, no difference.
We both owed nothing on the cars, no loans, no leans.
We are both in Ontario.
I am not sure about service dates, what do you mean by this?
3. Someone in this thread said there were charts to look up the value, you're saying they aren't public? There needs to be some way to determine if the settlement is being applied the same to everyone involved. In my case it seems like it is not.
4. I have been over it with him and the only difference is he has the auto and I have manual. Aside form that and colour our vehicles were the same.
Thanks again for the reply, I am open to any other suggestions as to why the numbers would be different and/ or who I can talk to about digging into why they are.
Cheers
