Car has been returned as of the 19th.. Camping ever since.

Showed up, signed papers, walked out started the car (I did) she recorded the VIN, turned it off, walked back in and received cheque, headed to the local branch where they called RP and endorsed the cheque on the spot - thank-you RBC!!

Sad to see it go but the Outback has been pretty nice outside of the reality of fuel consumption with a gas pig Vs. Diesel - ugh. It did pull the tent trailer up a loose & dry (been hot, real hot here all summer) road w/11% grade off of our lake property which was pretty impressive!

Still here for the MKIV :D

I submitted my claim yesterday morning and had my offer sitting on the Portal this morning at 10AM, 24 hours from submission to offer.
The signed offer was submitted about 10 minutes ago.
It took me a while to find the vehicle I wanted but I now have a 2014 Touareg TDI waiting for me.
So ready to move into the Treg.
:)

EDIT to add... As I was typing the above they must have been reviewing the documents, I'm on to step 18... Scheduling the appointment.

Cheers

I think we're supposed to receive a letter in the mail once it's available. Other than that you can try calling the dealer and asking them every week. I don't expect the portal to be updated right away. Some people in the US had the portal stuck on "no fix available" while others were booking appointments.

Not sure what's taking them so long. Unless they're still negotiating the terms and our deal will be different in regards to what parts they change and what's covered under the new warranty etc.

2010 Golf Sportwagen sold to VW now own a 2015 GSW TDI
2015 TDI GSW first impressions

Finally got my offer approved after a lot of hassle and have my appointment set up in the 3rd week of Sept. Just bought a 2015 TDI from a small used car dealership near Hamilton. The VW dealerships are asking outrageous prices for the 2015 models like 23k and up to 38k. VW is auctioning their leased 2015 models which is only open to dealers so I suggest you shop around. My wagon is a DSG comfortline with the pan roof, leatherette interior, navigation system which I believe is standard now in all models and back-up camera. Only 36k kilometers on the odometer and only cost $19K. As the dealer bought this from VW it has the reprogrammed computer already done and confirmed by a sticker under the hood. The exterior has rectangular fog lights like the Passat and tail lights that extend into the hatch which looks very nice. My first impression of the engine is that it is a lot smoother in 1st and 2nd gear without the tranny giving a kick when coming to a stop. Does not compete in acceleration with a 2014 model I test drove which squealed the tires on take off with just half throttle. The windows don't use plastic tint anymore which is better in my opinion as they will not scratch. Another annoying consequence of the plastic tint is that it would show a reflection of the chrome trim around the interior air vent and obscure your view in the side mirror. The vent is angled more to the interior in this model as well. My previous GSW was metallic gray. This one is metallic bright blue and really stands out nicely. Great looking dash with brushed aluminum finsh. Instead of a full size spare tire a smaller one is included and they got rid of the mickey mouse jack with a more stable one that opens like an accordian. The rear seats fold down with a release in the usual spot as well as a release lever in the rear which is convenient. The headrests do not have to be removed as in the older models. The trade off is the back rests do not lye totally horizontal but on a 30 degree angle. This model was advertised as being quieter in the interior but I found it to be a little noisier, but this may be because it has a panoramic sun roof and of course the tires may affect the interior noise level as well. Overall very pleased so far.

Congrats, nice find & cop. Yes, that dealer tax on recent TDIs is real.

Well Officially done with both cars now.
For my 15 I took the fix, Nothing on the market that would work for me with the amount of driving i do. For my wifes 11 Sportwagen, we took the trade in and got ourselves a new Atlas. We just had our 3rd daughter last year and it was very tight with the 2 golfs so we were looking for an opportunity to upgrade to something bigger with 7 passengers so this was the perfect opportunity to upgrade.

Now I just need to wait it out for phase 2 of the fix to get the rest of the fix money then decided what to do to the car next, Thinking the money will be going to springs and a vag com first then see how I feel from there.

"Hearing the CX5 diesel is delayed yet again. Sometime in 2018 maybe."

What was the source?

I have tested the CX-5 gasser several times. Just a great drive. So much car for so little. Waiting for the diesel. Not interested in spending all that money on gas and making the oil company shareholders just that little bit richer.

Equinox/Terrain expecting a diesel, but media reviews seem mixed.

I read somewhere else (don't ask where) that Mazda has been trying to get this thing on the road in NA since 2013. Kudoos for effort if so.

Edit: Mazda Canada chat could not provide any details about when consumers could order the diesel option.

I had a slightly different response but still pretty thin soup:

Mazda remains committed to bringing a SKYACTIV-D diesel engine to the North American market in the Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV, as we announced at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. We continue to work with EPA and CARB on final certification, and will have further information about on-sale dates as soon as certification is complete.

Reading the two responses together, my translation is we don't know if or when it will be available. Too bad because it's getting good reviews.

We still have our TDI so the April time frame could work for us if it isn't pushed back again.

You are REALLY REALLY reaching for that short end...

Don't like it? Sell your car back to VW - OR - Privately, after VW gives you $5,000 or more for your 'troubles'

It looks like the same deal they get in the USA, except that I get paid $5100 in CAD vs they get paid $5100 in USD ($6200 CAD at current).

My only beef with the fix is that by my estimate my buyback amount is $5000 more, not including the $5100 restitution, than what the car would actually be worth if I tried to sell it privately. That alone makes me favour the buyback.

In our case, our vehicle was worth $12.1k actual market value, with $5500 restitution, or $17.6k total. The buyback was $20.8k including restitution money, plus a tax credit towards another VW (another roughly $1.8k). Much higher than restitution then selling.

I'm glad we went for a buyback with trade, my wife's new 1.8 TSI Trendline wagon has been awesome so far!

For me buyback value is only $2,965. Since its a 2010 with 325,000 Kms. I'm planning on getting the fix and taking the $5,100. Most of which will probably go right back into keeping the Jetta running. It needs a timing belt and tires. They will probably also make me get the DPF replaced before they do the fix as the check engine light it on with P0401.

I figure once I get the fix it will get me hopefully get me another 4 years out of the car with the additonal warranty. Had there not been a scandal I would have had to pay for these repairs myself anyways.

I recently did a bunch of repairs on the car myself and the $5,100 will cover the cost of those too.

  • Rear pads and rotors
  • Rear springs
  • Front End links on both sides
  • Driver side axle
  • Front Driver side wheel bearing
Taking the buyback and sorry money gives me $8,065 for which I can't buy anything that gives me the same mileage.

That's exactly what a VW employee would say.
While I agree the deals are not the same, and the warranties are not the same.... the single sentence you seem to have pointed out and have issue with does not, IMO, constitute the 'short end of the stick'. If anything, the sticks are fairly evenly matched, with maybe 3 or 5% difference (when comparing warranty alone).

In the overall scheme, yes, US cars have a MUCH better deal.

But you were pointing out one sentence, not the whole settlement.

And so I ask.... what 'conflicts' in the warranty do you forsee on your 2009? Are you so upset over this sentence that you won't be doing the fix, on your 9 year old car? Your 9 year old car that, if fixed, will benefit from a NEW, quite impressive warranty? Recall that your car ran out of warranty in 2013/4.... and has been okay since from what I gather.

So what, pray-tell... is so hideous about this sentence?

And, no I don't work for VW - I just have a logical mind...
