Received the confirmation call yesterday. The poor guy calling, I had him totally flustered asking about coming in with less km's than estimated; would it mean a bonus cheque and what he meant when he said make sure the car is in "good condition"... 20 days and counting.
"Bonus" checks only happen if you are in the high mileage category already, or if you are 1999km away from a mileage break point when you give then your odo, and then show up with 1998 or less km's at the actual appointment.

They called me and told me not to exceed 2000 kms when I show up for my appt. I only did 900 kms....we'll see if the 1100 kms will equal a cheque. Hopefully it will. Haha.

My offer letter was based on a reported 197,500km + whatever km they calculate once you select the date of return. In actuality the day of returned it will be 1000km less then the reported 197,500km.

Now if I run the km's thru the portal with the actual km's (196,083) and a return date of 2017/08/19 (same as selected for offer letter) it returns:

$ 18,474.05 (w/estimated monthly mileage of 500km - it's parked and only 300km away from the dealer, it's last trip) Vs. $ 18,385.60 from the offer letter.

Pennies really, but certainly not the same amounts.

Plot your value every 10000km starting from a value of zero, and you'll find the mileage breakpoints. Stay under the breakpoint at all costs to NOT lose any extra money.

But if you aren't high mileage, 1km or 10000km under the breakpoint doesn't matter to the value.

You can continue to quote my response and yet not listen to what I'm saying. That's ok, my wife does it all the time... I'm used to it.

I plotted my values all the way along the spread sheet.... Linkydink

You are in the high mileage category (assuming that's you in the yellow on teh sheet), so my original response is correct. Bonus checks are very likely for those in the high mileage category since the value can potentially change by the day, particularly if you aren't doing exactly your daily average mileage every day, or in your case, are parked.

Looking for a trunklid

I am looking to swap trunk lid for a 12-15 Black Passat. I am keeping my car and my trunk lid is starting to bubble. I will swap trunk lids with someone who is giving their Passat back and the decklid is perfect. I will throw some cash your way for your trouble. I will travel and I will do all the work. I am in Ottawa. I would rather have factory paint than a warrantied and repainted by dealer trunk lid.

We recently received the "offer of settlement benefits ("Offer") (SELECTED OPTION: BUYBACK WITH TRADE-IN).

Looking through the 9 pages I don't see the specific name of the dealership that I had specified in the on-line application....does that make sense?

How long do we have to return the 9 page document initialed and signed?

Until Sept 2018. The selected dealer is shown in the portal, not the offer letter.

Thanks for the info 'crashtested'.

At what point does the selected dealership know officially that we have selected them for the FMV trade in? I ask as I wonder if this helps or hurts one's bargaining power when negotiating the deal on the new VW .

Prolly when you tell them.
You had to select a dealer @ step 6 or 7... Once you have signed and uploaded your offer letter you can opt to change or keep the dealer you had selected.

I was thinking more of when the dealership is informed by...Ricepoint? that the TDI owner wrote in their dealership via the portal.

(Is it an involved process to change the specific dealership say
  • prior to us returning our received "settlement benefits" "Offer"?
  • subsequent to returning the signed document?)

VW and Audi dealers get a weekly list of people trading in their car, the trade in locations and their assigned values. Each dealer gets this list as they attach their names to their clients. You confirm that location when you book your appt after your signed letter of offer has been accepted.
Does this help?

Once you book you appointment then RP will process the paperwork/cheque to that dealer.

A heads up for those looking at 15 leftovers, mine had 2 yr old maps in the Nav, Nav was broken on delivery, confirmed the Part number on the sd card as 2015.Vw supports view is you bought a 2 yr old car sir, you get what you get,I said so if a new car sat for 3 months, would you sell them with outdated maps as well? No answer.
, So much for we are going to make it right I guess...

Not sure why the saltiness - you are buying a 2015 car, all its parts are 2015 parts. Complaining about getting 2015 maps is like complaining about any other part of it being the 2015 version - that's what you're buying! I'm guessing the broken nav system will be covered under warranty.

Go pickup a 2017 and you'll get the latest maps.

Hey guys,
I haven't been following this thread for about 3-4 weeks now. My process took forever and I decided not to even think about it so it wasn't pissing me off. I started the process when they opened it and I just got my official offer about a little over week ago.

I have a return date of Aug 12, but flying off to Europe for three months on Aug 14 so I hope everything will go smooth at the dealership. Do you guys have any suggestions? What to look for? Anything I should be careful, etc?

Thanks!

Absolutely nothing to worry or be careful about. Process is smooth AF.
Just remember to take everything out of the car, SD card, glasses, change in between seats, etc. Dont worry about washing the car, cracks in glass, crappy rims, bald tires.
You selling or trading it?

If you pick up a car that has sat for 2-3 months, and an update was available, would you accept it? Nope,,
these cars are to be sold as new. I confirmed it talking to the techs out back at the dealer that did the service on them.

Due diligence as a buyer... Make sure every is UPDATEd before you hand over your cash. We all know the stories of dealerships, most of the front end staff have little to no clue what goes on beyond the service/parts desks.

I also got one of the leftover 2015's. Before I did the trade-in of my 2011 for it I made sure that my dealer updated the Navigation database to 2017. It took a little bit of pushing on my part, but they did do it. However, I have the same flickering issue on the display screen as you are having. Apparently when they updated my navigation database they also did a firmware update. Now they are supposed to replace the module for it in the glove box which is supposed to fix the problem. I'm interested to see what is done to fix your car. Good luck!

Hot off the wire:
https://sivertimes.com/dieselgate-ottawa-ordered-to-continue-volkswagen/62556

A lawsuit has been brought by two environmental groups against the minister of the Environment, Catherine McKenna, because of his refusal to investigate and bring proceedings in connection with the fraud of Volkswagen in relation to diesel engines. Environmental Defence and the Canadian Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) hope that the federal government hold Volkswagen responsible for defrauding the public, “as required by the canadian Law on the protection of the environment”.
“Volkswagen has deceived the public and jeopardized the health of Canadians. It is time that the government of Canada’s punishment with the full force of the criminal law rather than give them a free pass,” one can read in a press release from the organization Ecojustice, which is representing the two groups.
The German automaker has recognized to have developed a rigging system that allowed him to tamper with its diesel engines. It is one of the biggest scandals in the history of the automotive industry. Approximately 105 000 vehicles are affected in Canada.
For its part, the New democratic Party has also asked why no prosecution has been brought in this folder. “That’s enough. It is time that McKenna’s doing his job and prosecutes the case in the case of” scandalous, said in a statement the new democrat member of parliament Brian Masse.
In a statement, the minister assured that the federal government was “determined to enforce the environmental laws of Canada”.

I have a feeling that is a French document that was Google translated. It has that je ne sais quoi...
Many people keep forgetting.. our government doesn't give a rat's a$$ when it comes to the Consumer Protect Act(don't even know why we have it) and also ..when it comes time to take on any large corporations, our government will put their tail between their legs and run for the hills. This goes for every aspect of our government..from housing, automobiles, education, immigration etc, etc. It's an absolute shame, but the sad truth.
