All makes sense, I was a little tired on that 1,200 km day. Does your new wagon have the traction control on/off button? That setup really made a difference on the highway you describe above. Like most things it takes a while to get used to change, especially with vehicles.
Do you have a 4-motion? We have a base FWD model. We can turn it off via the car menu on the infotainment system. Our TDI had a traction control button.

If you do a lot of highway driving, you should consider getting the driver assistance package if you buy another VW. It includes adaptive cruise. I used that feature for about two weeks on a recent trip in Yurp, and it reduces driver fatigue to a huge degree.

You may even be able to get an insurance discount for the autonomous braking (AEB) feature.

Yes, 4Motion auto, I'll have to look on the menu to see if I can switch it on/off as I hadn't heard of that. Traction control has an on/off button on the left side of the shifter console.

That's an interesting comment. Since I mostly drive on uncrowded highways (if you can believe that) I specifically didn't want that feature, but I do understand where it would come in handy on the 401, for example. One thing I am considering is a better anti-sway system for this somewhat heavier and more windprone car, and yes, we have wind in Saskatchewan too:)

For those that were quick enough to scoop up one of the newly released 2015's, can any one tell me what the cost was for a Golf Wagon Highline? I've seen a used 2015 with auto transmission and 30K on the clock at a dealership with an asking price of $35,000. Seems a bit steep to me. All I will get for my 2011 is a total of $19,900 so it would be a lot of extra coin to upgrade.

We rented a 2016 Golf TDI in the UK last year, and it had adaptive cruise, and I loved it. The motorways are so busy there that regular cruise is as good as useless. We did some really long drives (from south Wales to the Isle of Skye in one day), and it really helped on the motorway portion.

The car had a manual transmission too. Driving on the left, shifting with the left hand, narrow roads, what fun! It actually felt like I was *driving*, not just steering down a straight, boring autoroute.

Alas I fear the only TDIs I'll be driving in the future will be rentals in Europe thanks to VW's shenanigans

Maybe when the scandal dies down and people realize that hybrids and electrics are not the panacea everyone thinks they are, affordable diesels will make a comeback. Too bad Chevy doesn't make a wagon version of the diesel Cruze.

Some of these RicePoint reps are fu**ing useless.
I call one....cant do anything, file is in process.....I call another one...cant do nothing, file is in process....call a third and all of a sudden, sir I will escalate this asap for you. Friggen magic! In 2 days it will be 2 full months and still have no date. Each day I drive by the dealership I see at least 15 returned TDI's on the lot.

Wow...that does suck ! I assume your at the very last step ? waiting for a turn in date ? Two months is definitely unheard of and unreasonable; especially when we've been reading several posts recently of members who decided to register for a claim well after the April 28 opening date. It seems the later you registered the better you were off. Definitely, unbelievable hearing of people who have completed the entire process in weeks. No offense to those people, I'm happy for them but at the same time some folks here have been left in the dust...

I agree, Rice Point promised me one amount on the buy out offer letter but have now reduced it by $850.00 I contacted their customer service people both the rep & her supervisor with zero results. In my opinion they could care less about the car owner. The process with these people has be very difficult since day one & I have lost patience with all things VW related.:(

I had a 2018 Golf R on order but due to the above mentioned situation have cancelled it. I will take the reduced buy back & use the funds toward the purchase another product.
I turn in my TDI on July 10th & look forward to terminating any further contact with VW.

Well, there ya go !! Way to go... Hopefully , no more hiccups for you...
I'm still waiting for an appointment date, but it's been barely a week since they've received my signed offer letter. So can't really complain.
Best of luck to you...

Sigh, this never ends. I submitted my signed offer 1.5 weeks ago. Under review with no changes. How hard is it to look at initials and a signature. How long did it take for turn around for others?

It's really funny(no pun intended). Some folks were literally being approved days apart during each step of the process. On the other hand, the majority of us who went online immediately as soon as the portal opened to register for a claim and submit documents didn't hear anything for weeks. Then all kinds of confusing information from some of the people on the help line.... one can't help but be frustrated and angry. What's a person to do ? I'm nearing the finish line, so I'm not gonna keep stressing and calling in. I'm into it for two months from first registering on the 29th of April. I'm hopeful I'll be contacted shortly with an appointment date.... Fingers crossed...

Sorry to hear. These turn-around times are so random. I was fortunate the approval of signed offer took 24 hours. But, the time from uploaded docs (no errors) to final offer was more than 6 weeks (buy back with trade in, Vehicle is paid off w/ no lease or loan). Good luck!

The whole process for us, from initial registration to cheque in hand, took 36 hours short of two months. Submitted around 9 pm on April 28th, received cheque at 9:08 am on June 27th. And 2017 GSW delivered shortly after we carried the cheque one cubicle over to the finance manager at the dealership. The delivery of the new car took considerably longer than the surrender of the TDI.

Early lease termination .... Monthly payment

Morning all.... Had a question that I don't recall seeing answered here. If a person's regular monthly lease payment is on the 15th for example and he/she chooses the 23rd of the month to return the vehicle . Does Volkswagen Finance Canada charge that person for having the vehicle another eight days? Sorry if it sounds confusing, not sure how to ask the question. I guess what I'm trying say is the monthly payment fee prorated depending on when you return the car?
TIA

Finally...offer validated and turn in date set.

Registered: May 3rd
Documents validated: May 8th
Offer received: June 3rd (signed and submitted June 5th)
Offer validated: July 4th
Turn in: August 1st

Roughly 3 months from beginning to end for me. Jetta has been parked in the driveway since beginning of June so no miles are being accumulated. Hopefully all goes well with the turn in. Good luck to everyone else who are still stuck waiting.

First of all, sorry to all those still stuck in the definitely NOT FIFO line.

I was told at my turn in appointment that I would receive a second cheque in the mail as I had used 0 km of the 2,000 km allotted (we had it towed in as the battery and turbo were dead, warranty work to replace battery and they accepted it). Anyhow, it has been a month and no sign of a second cheque. Has anyone received this second cheque? I was just wondering if it was worth trying to phone RP about this.

I registered my claim on May1, cheque in hand June 20th, the one thing I did, I entered my mileage 2000 KM less than the odometer showed, this netted me another $300 on top of the original estimate.

I wanted to take advantage of the free 2K, since I had already parked the car until the turn in date.

Today I received in the mail details on the fix for 2012 Passat, now I am even happier that I ditched it, yes the fix is only software, fuel economy reduced, they claim only 0.2L/100KM..and the DEF consumption will increase by 50% to 130%. the DPF will operate more often.

Anyone wants to buy 2004 Jetta TDI, 363K/belt done at 345K ? $2800, negotiable

I would guess a best case scenario is that eventually you will be charged for 8 days only, but expect to make the full monthly payment on the 15th, and get reimbursed for the balance at a later date, sorry to say that I foresee in your future, many many phone calls made by yourself to whomever, to track down and receive the $$$$.

It is one helluva Rice pudding out there.

Companies that specialize in loans have them overpaid ALL the time... they will send you a check without even asking.... it's normal.
