Done. Five days start to finish. I feel blessed. This from the guy who always picks the wrong check-out line.

It's over.
You should buy a ticket for every lottery you can find in your town ... that truly must be the fastest VW TDI claim process in the world. Nobody will ever beat your time, I predict.

You must wonder, how this RicePoint thing works ... when we have people who are still waiting +14 days for approvals, people who are +14days approved waiting for offer and people who are +14days with an offer signed (not 100% sure about this one) ... I guess they have never heard of a process deviation metric ... LOL

Lol. I just submitted everything for a second TDI I have (the wife was driving). It has my name on the bill of sale and her name on the ownership. I'm waiting to see how long it takes for the different names to screw something up.
Good luck! :)

Finally green check marks, but no email. I submitted on the 29th, had issues creating an account on the 28th. I called on Friday to see if all my files were there and correct, girl said it shouldn't be taking this long and she would escalate -> it should be looked at in 48 hours. I checked today and there was no change, so I called back. This time it looks like I got someone that knew what to do, she said the last person didn't do much, but she would forward everything off right away. She even looked over my documents to see if there are any issues with them. 1 hour later and I got all check marks.

...now to wait for the letter. At least I know I'm moving forward. We take possession of our new car (Jaguar XE 20d R-Sport) on Thursday so I would love to have this dealt with in the next few weeks.

apparently they want us all to call in again... they don't really explain what the issue was, or who was affected

UPDATE: On May 10th, some claimants may have experienced a technical issue with the online Claims Portal and received error code 8707. The root cause of the issue has been determined and a fix identified. It is recommended that affected claimants clear the cache on their computers before proceeding on the Claims Portal. If claimants continue to experience the issue, contact the Canadian Settlement Claims Centre at 1-888-670-4773.

If we take the settlement and trade in, we really don't have the money for payments (bought 1st house in Toronto last year. 2 kids in childcare)
So in all honesty, I'd love to take the settlement and put it back into our family (house)
But I'm concerned about the recall. After they "fix" the problem, will it be the same car? Will the engine still be as long lasting? Will performance? Mileage?
I feel like I'm being asked to gamble when I really just want the car I paid for.
I don't think it will be the same car, as mine already isn't after the last couple rounds of firmware updates. But, my concern over the 'fix' aside from degraded performance and worse fuel economy, was longevity and maintenance. It's a mess I just don't want to be stuck with.

Regarding buy-out/trade-in, etc. if it's finances you're primarily concerned with, I'd just take the buy-out and then buy a nice used car. Aside from the joy of owning a car from day 1, you never come out financially buying new, IMO.

Just buy a few year old car that's been maintained (and most are at that point), or an older one with one-owner (if possible) that took good care of it and did all the maintenance (or even over-did it... like more frequent oil changes, coolant flushes, etc.).

The trick is finding something comparable you're happy with from a driving/performance/practicality perspective. But, keep in mind that VW cheated, so what was almost an unbelievable combo.... well, shouldn't have been believed. :(

If you're not a car person, or car family, you might be really happy with a good number of fairly reliable cars that should last a long time if well cared for. For us, I just picked up a BMW 328xi, one-owner, really well cared for, for less than half our settlement amount. While it does use more fuel, it's AWD, quicker and more fun to drive, and feels/looks like a new car. (Not sure if you'd be comfortable with the maintenance there... but just saying there are options.)

So you turned your car in, its gone? And it only took 5 days? When did you submit your documents? Did you have any outstanding loan?
Congrats on such a smooth process.
I picked a future date for turn in (one day before our warranty expires :D). Submitted May 10, finalized yesterday. No loan.

Is there anyone from SK?

I've submitted my documents when they opened up the website, but we do not have "back of Registration" here. I talked to them on the phone, and after him talking to the supervisor and doing some research they realized SK does not have anything on the back, but they still require something. I've been waiting for nearly two weeks now and nothing happened.

Is anyone else in the same situation?
Not quite the same as you, since I already transferred my plate to another vehicle, I only had the car portion, and they rejected it as incomplete..then I added text using Windows Paint to explain to them that is all I have, and was accepted the second time, however I am still waiting approval on the proof of purchase, I uploaded the Ontario UVIP, proving that I am the current owner...

So...I'm really torn on this.
We bought our sportwagon tdi with cash from getting married. (I know how spoiled that sounds. We live incredibly modestly)
We bought it because we were having a child and we looked for (what we thought) would be the most long lasting car out there. Our plan was to drive it into the ground. Maybe 15 years if we were lucky. We weren't car people before. Cyclists.

Any accountant or economist will tell you to take the money. You don't state what year your TDI is but since you joined 2012, can I assume it's a 2012? If it is, you're going to get in the $20k range. The car is worth maybe $8k, if you're lucky.

An economist will also tell you to stretch out the buyout to the very last day in September 2018. The cost per km. of approximately $.06 is far less than the depreciation on a new vehicle.

If you're worried about totalling the car, the odds of that happening are very low. I would discuss with your insurance company exactly what your payout would be in that situation and get it in writing.

Take your cash and buy a nice 3 year old Toyota RAV4 or Highlander. Basic, reliable transportation with low depreciation.

He's got a 2012 Jetta Highline...and yes I agree take the money.
I dont think he'll get 20K for it...(I personally got 17.5K) but depends on the province and kms. Definitely close to that though.
Not only can he get a RAV4, etc....if he wants to stick with VW, brand new gasser Jettas start at 16K something...with the trade in option, he might have to pay 2K or so on top....for a brand new car.

Anyone with a Modified TDI trading in or buyback

I have 2 cars that will be going back. 2010 VW Golf TDI and 2015 Jetta TDI

I have had Green Checks for a week and nothing else...not even an email to inform me.

I also have 2 2015 on hold with deposit to replace these cars a Golf Highline TDI and Sportwagon Highline TDI

My question is my 2010 has been modified with a Malone tune Stage 1 and Exhaust by Buzzken

Do I place the original exhaust back on before the trade in?

Anyone else in my situation?

Thanks

John

I would 100% remove the aftermarket exhaust and replace it with the factory exhaust since you wont get anything additional for it. The tune is a moot point.

According to the supervisor my offer has been drafted as of May 5th and waiting to go through the "double check" system. He has escalated that process so hopefully that can speed things up.

So what you are saying is that if you've been waiting a few days with the check marks you should call in. Good to know. I was one of the people that submitted on the 29th(couldn't get my account on 28th) and I just got my check marks, I'll wait till next Tuesday and call in then if I don't have my letter.

Was told last Friday that my offer letter had been prepared 3 days before and was under review. Called today to prod the system. Helpful fellow looked up my file and said my offer letter was wrong as it used the wrong mileage. A new one was prepared and is being reviewed. He confirmed that the error in mileage was all their's then made the statement "lots of errors were being found in the offer letters due to this mileage issue". All were being reprocessed. I am waiting by the phone for a supervisor to call!

I just got my email for buyback turn in schedule, and mine is on June 5th.

After I escalated my claim, everything seemed to move quickly for me. i recommend this to anyone who is waiting in limbo.

Is there any market for a used aftermarket exhaust system? If not, why bother removing it...nobody's going to check it at your buy-back appointment.

Just got an email that my offer is ready. Just downloaded it. 19 pages. Any reason the english portion is 9 pages and the french portion 10 pages?

Just an fyi - submitted everything May 1, got green checkmarks on May 8.

Dumb question - am I safe signing and uploading only the english portion of the offer?

In my experience of software translation, French is typically "longer" than an equivalent piece of English text, as are several other languages.

Here is something i found interesting. I am interesting in migrating from my 09 jetta to an A3 TDI or E-tron. I have been told from the people responsible for the website there will be an update to the system so that I can select and Audi dealership for the location, I have yet to see this and told the audi dealership as such. They are willing to honour my offer and give me the trade in value that I would have otherwise been entitled to. Anyone else hear of this? In talking with the dealer it does sound like the Audi team is a bit of a disconnected for information updates regarding this settlement.

I found this an interesting option and helps with timing much better.

By any chance is yours a "high mileage" car?

Browser restart magically fixed the problem. Appointment booked for June 5 at 10am at Steele VW in Dartmouth.
We're you able to choose between the 2 VW dealerships and the Audi one? Total of 3.
