Does anybody have any information on the Diesel Emission Fluid Reservoir that will be installed? I'm wondering about mileage and how many times I would have to fill the container.
Assuming you are talking about the vehicle in your profile (2014 Jetta) ...

No such container will be installed. The fix, if there is one, will maintain the same concept of operation that your car already has, and will NOT be retrofitted with SCR (which is the system that requires the container that you are talking about). This is based on a general description of the proposed fix for these cars which was in the "consent decree" documentation in the USA a long time ago. Bear in mind that this is STILL a proposed fix. It has not been approved.

It's either that ... or the cars get bought back and flattened. No one knows yet.

Got two identical emails as well. I guess we were supposed to have received these when the court approved the settlement last month.

Any insurance experts here? I had my TDI rear-ended last summer. I reported it to police and insurance but elected to do nothing about it until I found out the details of the buyout. Damage was minor but visible.

I called my insurance company recently and asked if I could just get a cash settlement for a portion of the repair cost since VW will be sending my car to the crusher (I'm assuming). I was told "that's not how it works.". I suggested it was a win-win for both of us and the only person benefitting from fixing the car is the body shop. I got a very condescending, negative response and the rep even mildly threatened to cancel my coverage.

I thought I was presenting a logical business solution but apparently not. After speaking with friends, I've been told a cash settlement is not unusual.

Has anyone done this? How best to approach this? FWIW, I'm in Ontario.

You should have simply told them you were ready to repair the car, but would be doing the work via your own shop, sourcing etc... So you'd like the claim paid to you in cash.

That said, your insurance is there to make you and the car whole again regardless of your future plans. I'm pretty sure you could push them on this as you don't actually know what VW will do with the car... and technically you can change your mind and keep it, or trade it in at a non VW dealer in the future and the fixed car would be worth more.

I submitted on the 28th. Finally got ALL green checkmarks on Wednesday. So far NO emails... :roll eyes:

What a crazy system.

I replied to the reply from the lawyers. I was not happy with their reply. I indicated that we submitted *early* specifically so we could be among the first processed, and with the Friday glitch we now find ourselves moved to the back of the line instead of near the front, which is very frustrating.

Not sure they can do much... but I needed to vent.

If it rolls under it's own power then there is your out - it only has to drive in under it's own power, condition is not a factor. Avoid claiming it thru insurance or else it could affect your premiums.

Just called in to the 1-888-670-4773, drilled through the menu until I found the option for someone live and "technical difficulty"... On hold for 10min and they hung up

if it's anything like last year when I tried to contact the lawyers, you won't get a call back until they have hired their summer students to do all the talking for them.
Yeah, it looks like that. Left second voicemail, I will try every day, I don't care.

It seems like they are certain of their fee, so no need to work hard any further or more. It's frustrating, because if they are MIA how else to inform the judge that things are definitely not going the way RicePoint laid it out??

Looks like Quebec people at least are getting responses from their counsel, although it sounds like a canned reply, without anyone actually looking at any metrics of the process and investigating.

Well, I guess back to waiting and giving extra cash to a friend of mine on whose driveway the car is sitting ...

Getting rear ended doesn't affect your premiums.

He's not worried about qualifying for the settlement.

He's worried about the insurance company fulfilling their end of the insurance agreement. He is entitled to make a present claim, and all that that implies, regardless of the status or stature of the settlement.

True, forgot for second it's always 100% from behind but why, why would you make a claim on a car you're turning in? Makes no sense...

Following that line of thinking we should get an insurance rebate because our cars will be crushed and the insurance company has no interest in the value of the car.

DAFAQ?

If you turned your car in with 3 months remaining you would be entitled to a refund for the unused portion but nothing more.
