LOL, me too felt good !:D
Completely agree !!! Must say price of diesel has been incredibly cheap, compared to January 2014. Co-worker of mine was driving brand new Cummings 3500 crew cab. If I recall diesel was north of $1.40/L.... Sobering thought....
Sorry to get sidetracked ...

Ah yes - that's right. I wonder how the 2.0 would do in such a large vehicle.
I was wondering... Jag F-PACE with 2.0 Diesel starts at 50K, with all options in can go up to 53K or so, before tax . It just won the Car of The Year 2017 award, it looks pretty good , at least in pictures
VW Atlas seems overpriced, underpowered with 2.0 gas, and an optional 3.6 engine with 13l/100km town and 10l:eek:/100 highway, well that is a no go
Anyone considers Jag F-pace option when this VW fiasco is over ?
On same note, any news about Benz GLC 300d , will it be available in the near/distant future ?
Cheers !

WAYY out of our league price-wise. Although my wife can afford it (it's her wagon we're replacing), there's NO WAY she would ever spent $50 Large on a vehicle unless absolutely necessary, and then she'd want it to last the rest of her life.

Since a Golf wagon fulfills most of the "utility" in "SUV" as far as cargo capacity goes, and actually really is fairly sporty to drive, it is to us the essence of a "sport" utility vehicle. The "S" in "SUV" is a complete misnomer...

Plus, it is half the price, and the TSI will still consume less fuel than a diesel in a large SUV.

Re TSI, I could not agree with you more. However, between an Atlas and F-Pace Diesel, I am not sure if Atlas would be my choice. Let's wait how this fiasco ends and everyone will decide later, keep, trade-in, or get $$ and move on to another manufacturer

Well if you really need an SUV (in my mind that means you need to tow something), then a diesel is what you need for towing. So I'd go F-pace or any of the other diesel SUVs out there (e.g. Mercedes).

Have you tried ordering a new diesel Mercedes lately? Not available!! Only used.

Correct ! And we can say "Thank you VW!" for screwing up Diesel market in NA.
I give thumbs up to manufacturers which still have the guts to bring diesel-powered cars to US or Canada. Actually US, because no one will bring a diesel car to Canada only

Sh!t. VW should just go ahead and process the buybacks as they now stand, and promise to top up if the courts so mandate it. There is no way the courts will mandate a *lesser* deal than what was already agreed.

OK, now I'm seriously considering parking the damn car and get a cheapo replacement in the meantime. Beyond ridiculous, but I guess not surprising after all. We are talking justice, Canadian style.

Ugh.. friend of mine who I had mentioned previously in the thread, put a deposit and ordered a new VW in early march under the pretence that the TDI settlement had already been approved (they keep re-assuring him of this) decided to call the dealership today when I shared him the (non) news that we got today. They kept insisting "No, it's already all settled and it's going to start in late april. These are just minor details that have to be played out"

VW dealerships are in damage mitigation mode ever since this boondoggle broke, so they will say everything and anything to save their businesses and customers who are willing to play a role in the future VW sales. To a degree I don't blame them, but, I am not sure, I would be willing to go a lie in such a way, if I can opt to know from a minute on Internet, that there's no official settlement agreement in Ontario, yet.

I'd be very wary of this dealership. Also, one thing that keeps coming up in my mind is that when the Judge asked VW counsel " How soon would you be able to start rolling out the settlement program, and have class members register for benefits to make a claim ? VW's lawyers/counsel replied by saying " we would be ready and have something in place by April 28,2017. "
So, today's date April 13,2017 and a 4 day long holiday weekend for many, leaves another two weeks till the end of April. Maybe I'm being cautiously optimistic ? Hold another hearing late next week, the judge to review and make an announcement of approval in the following days ? Which would allow it to be released for near or end of April ? Sounds to good to be true....

Agreed. I had a few bad experiences at this dealership some years back and haven't been back. I tried to explain this to my friend, and he replied by saying he called other dealers and they're all confirming the same thing. I think he's almost in a bit of denial himself, wanting to believe that it's all done and they're going to start the process in late April.

We ordered our new wagon for my wife back in Jan. The dealer did not require a deposit. We'll see how this plays out but no buyback, no deal, we walk away. Wishful thinking doesn't write cheques.

So mad that there isn't any update until now. I might have to park my passat and buy another vehicle. I will be extremely mad if I write off my passat for whatever reason.

I noticed VW Canada is taking reservations for the 2017 e-Golf now, to be available in July. Base price of $36k and $14k in incentives for Ontario makes this pretty attractive... Looks like it's very well equipped. https://vwmodels.ca/egolf/index.php

Hopefully I can time this with buyback on my Passat to get the trade-in credit as well! Anyone else put a deposit down? Not sure when they started taking deposits...

I've been looking at an EV as well for a while now. Although the e-Golf looks nice and has decent performance specs for an EV, It doesn't match the Chevy Bolt. The Bolt has double the range, with its 60Kwh battery, and more power, for almost the same price point.

While I do agree with you, I'd have to say that the interior quality of the Gold is much nicer than the Bolt. Just my opinion anyway.

I think I'm going to look at the Audi Etron sportsback but it's only PHEV and the battery is just big enough to get the $8k grant.

I drove the e-tron a few times one year ago. Nearly purchased one as well. I liked it quite a bit. Nice option with the incentive in ontario too.

I'd much rather have the Golf too, but unfortunately the 200 km range is a deal-buster for me. At 350-400 km, I'd buy one for my next car. The problem is that Montreal is exactly 100 km away and I need to be able to get there and back on a single, umm, "tank", plus do some driving around the city. Unless I take my bike and find one of Montreal's plug-in stations, park the car, plug it in, and take my bike for whatever errands I have to do in the city. As an avid cyclist that appeals to me... except in winter. At 350 km I'd have enough of a cushion for bad winter weather, and unavailability of a charging station.

I have replacement cost insurance on our Golf wagon; it's a 2013 bought Dec. 4th 2012. I bought a 5 year policy, so if the deal doesn't come through before December 4th when it expires we'll have to park our wagon and perhaps borrow our very tired B5.5 Passat TDI back from our son for local trips (I no longer trust it for big drives).

Ever optimistic though, I'm hoping that this delay won't be more than a few weeks. As I'm sure most of the dealers are. For those who put a deposit down for a new car, I sure hope you wrote into the contract that it's pending the VW settlement! At least my dealer did not require a deposit to order a car.

Just picked up my red 2017 Golf comfortline yesterday, some nice improvements since 2012. Parking the 2012 Golf TDI until the buy out, if it doesn't come I just have a spare. The dealers are hopeful, but what other choice do they have. Happy Easter everybody!
