It's winter now, prepare for a 20c increase in diesel. The reserve fuel pumps aren't calibrated properly (who regulates native pumps) Ive also noticed the pumps are on a downward incline to the rear, making everyone full up a few bucks extra

I assume you are referring to a specific fuel station. The ones I frequent all have pumps on level ground. My fuel economy numbers would be down if the pumps were delivering less fuel than indicated.

The reserve stations close to the 400 always have lineups despite having doubled the number of pumps recently. With that kind of volume they probably don't need to cheat customers.

I read the reviews of some of the pumps and there are always people complaining about pump calibrations, but makes you wonder who really inspects the native pumps. Natives have their own police and laws. It's not Canada in the reserves. I've noticed the incline with particular stations. If they do it, I'm sure others do it. I've had reserve pump workers at other stations insist to pump fuel and they always round up and pump more in the tank after the first click unless you tell them not too. I wouldn't be surprised if there pumps are miscalibrated or if they make the grade on an incline to get more fuel in tanks as I've seen

Too many.
Most stations are here are 1.82 or 185 but filled up in Woodstock with the CAA discount at Shell for 1.729 in the big bus last week,

It's that time of year again...
My end of year chart and data for 2022 of diesel price versus gas price at the location of my fill-ups.

10 fill-ups, 7182 km driven, total fuel used 385 liters, cost for fuel $733.
That results in fuel economy of 5.37 l/100kms and fuel cost to drive 100km of $10.20
Diesel average price (at the time of my fill-ups) for 2022 has increased to 191.6 cents per liter, up from 124.6 in 2021.
Gasoline average price (at the time of fill-up) for 2022 has also increased to 161.3 cents per liter, up from 129.1 in 2021.
Most fill-ups in Eastern Ontario.
Oh BTW, for what it's worth. I'm really happy that I no longer commute 40,000 km a year.
@TDIGAZ would you happen to have your annual data ready to post?

Wow, I forgot to post this...
Thanks for the nudge.

10 fill-ups, 8193 km driven, total fuel used 453 liters, cost for fuel $775.
That results in fuel economy of 5.53 l/100kms and fuel cost to drive 100km of $9.46
Diesel average price (at the time of my fill-ups) for 2023 has decreased to 171.1 cents per liter, compared to 191.6 cents per liter, in 2022.
Gasoline average price (at the time of fill-up) for 2023 has also decreased to 149.7 cents per liter, compared to 161.3 in 2022.
Most fill-ups in Eastern Ontario.
Sorry (not sorry ) my data sampling size has dropped from about 50 a year to now only 10.
But I still find it interesting to see how my TDI compares.

I think I did a quick add up of how much I've spent on diesel since I got the car in March 2021, something around $13,000 give or take other people filling up the car as well. Didnt add up how many litres though. I was thinking of getting Fuelly but to add up the costs and litres since that seems to be a popular app to use.

Just curious, using your driving and fuel data, are you able to calculate these same figures for 2023 if you had a gasoline car? Thanks.

I guess that depends on which "gasoline car".

Fuelly is a great resource for this.
https://www.fuelly.com/car

But if we use My 2023 data the "gasoline car" would have to do BETTER than 37 US mpg (6.36 l/100km) to have a cheaper fuel cost to drive 8193km.
According to Fuelly data, most newer (in the 2020's) Jettas get about 34 mpg (6.92 l/100km), Honda Civics about 32 mpg (7.59 l/100km).

My 2003 Jetta got over 42 US mpg (5.53 l/100m) last year, driving 50% highway 50% city.

But historically, since 2011, my Jetta has averaged over 46 US mpg (5.09 l/100km).
So if we were to use my historical fuel economy and compare it, using 2023 diesel versus gasoline costs, the "gasoline car" would have to do better than 40 US mpg (5.88 l/100km) to be cheaper to drive 8193kms.
Those "gasoline cars" are few and far between.
