Hey guys check engine light is on in my 2012 golf tdi. dealership says my warranty ended April 16th this year. i had brought it in for this code sometime early summer last year, but the code had apparently disappeared so they would not work on it. fast forward to June of this year and the shop quoted me:

"Upon inspection performed GFF, faults present for p2002 particulate filter trap bank 1 efficiency below threshold short circuit to ground, checked for leaks, no leaks present, soot build-up present in in exhaust system, pipe and EGR filter. client requires new particulate filter and EGR filter, total repair quoted at $4301 + tax"\

since June i have made a couple long trips in hopes that some soot would burn off, but light keeps coming back.

Going to try to call their client support center to see if they can do anything for me.

What do you guys recommend i do here? should i bite the bullet and pay the cost? do you think the client support will help at all? im upset because it could have been fixed last year but they refused to work on it and now im in a bind financially because of this.

Thank in advance!

I'd be asking them what the original codes it had. Unfortunately it's one of those times where the squeaky wheel gets the grease didn't happen because you were too quiet about it.

I'd say your out of luck but it can't hurt to try see if VW America will do anything.

If it has soot on the tailpipe , the DPF is cracked. New DPF and egr filter or delete if possible

whats is the worst case scenario of the DPF failing? if i were to drive through winter will my car catch fire randomly?

Blown up turbo, blown up engine, take out the deNOx catalyst behind the DPF, reduced power, etc. Your car is broken. It needs to be fixed.
