Died on road won\'t restart

I recently bought a 97 jetta TDI for my son at auction. I had to replace the cylinder head, timing belt and pullies. After the work the car started fine and ran great. I drove the car for a few weeks and then drove from NH to NJ to transfer to my son. Now here's the problem; The car will turn over and belch black smoke but will not start. Checked relay 109 and checked timing belt long distance via telephone. Do anyone have any ideas? I'm 300 miles away and feel terrible that the car I just worked on will no longer start. Thanks all in advance

First thing I would do is make sure the timing belt is REALLY still in time, (guess you did that) and that the fuel line (and filter) is full of diesel. Could just be air in the lines, or leaking top filter valve, or loose filter drain plug. Didn't gell up in NJ did it? Nobody put gasoline in it?? could happen.

If you could narrow down the location, some one here that is closer with the knowledge, experience, and VAG-COM might be able to give "hands-on" help/consultation.

I did ask my son if it was gassed up rather than diesel.. The car is located in Tenafly, NJ. I would be more than willing to pay for someones time to take a look with Vag-Com. If anyone could help I would be more than greatful.
