I hope that isn’t an omen that Michigan gets mentioned in the same sentence as California regarding compliance. Nice that they realized the VW wasn’t that bad.

Not surprising with all the talk about removing the power of the EPA or dismantling altogether. They're looking for a way to retain their jobs. Now if only someone would curb CARB!

It's a government agency, not a "political" one...
Oh, I geuss I'm clear now

Government agencies would/could never be a political one.

Even those with politically driven agendas... as just witnessed by the censored multiple ligit post.

You're the one who introduced politics into the discussion. "The EPA historically has been about as trustworthy as the present administration... oh thats right they are." Please stay on topic.

Even if certain agencies could be "bent" towards the views of whatever administration is in power, said agencies will still be enforcing rules enacted regardless. Of course, priorities shift for various reasons. Like, I somehow doubt the FCC, FRA, DOT, etc would be enforcing laws substantially different if administration X was in power vs administration Y.

But yeah, I agree - if we want to talk politics, that's what PMs are for, not a public forum.

In retrospect I dont see how politics we're pulled from simply stating the epa has pulled these shenanigans before backed loosely with past example, or is that considered politics?

So back to the topic

Posts with political overtones have been deleted.
I’ll respect your right and power to remove remarks as you see fit. But I will contend and point out that my remark you deleted had no political overtone. None of my remarks do, on this forum or in casual conversation. It was strictly my view of governmental action in general.
As far politics and government go, I doubt you would find anything I’ve said that could be considered anything other than neutral or vague, as far as political tones go. If you would have said governmental, I would fit that description.
No offense taken, Just wanted to be clear that I spoke of government not politics. No offense meant either, after all, you are a self proclaimed curmudgeon. I can respect that 😉

Still not a priority....................

Yeah, I saw a couple more news stories of tuners and shops getting popped just days after the Drive article about it being de-prioritized going forward. Had to assume there were investigations they were already in the middle of and would be moving forward with them.

Plus, I believe the shift away from targeting the aftermarket so heavily may not begin until next year. Whatever investigations they were still working on they will likely see through in the meantime.

well.. it might have to do with my comment which did bring politics in lol. it was fairly lengthy, while i didnt name/attack any specific political parties i pretty clearly criticized the entire political system and how theyre handling "climate change."

yeah i agree, whatever they had already open was likely going to just run it's course. however i wouldn't be surprised if theyre just saying they are shifting focus in the hope that more deletes pop up which they could they pursue

"No longer a top priority" doesn't mean "not a priority" or "not at all".
Exactly, they won't escalate it comparatively. The status quo has already been determined, I doubt they are going to roll backwards on their policies toward emissions or those that violate them.

EPA/NHTSA are a complete joke

im in iceland and we rented a 2023 Dacia Duster - 1.5L turbo diesel 6spd 4X4 crossover (made by renault) that gets 50 mpg all day long - they sell these in UK and europe fo rthe equivalent of $25K and its fully equipped with a modern SCR engine

instead they want to prop up a dying US auto industry and force customers to drop $70K or more on some POS EV that uses coal-fired grid power

Renault and many of the other European automakers have pretty much stopped R&D on their diesel engine programs.

Good.... best to stop at a high point. I wish I could buy a new ALH-era TDI myself. Good thing I have a lifetime supply of them now, though.

Ford realized they should have stopped on V8s in the '60s, so they went backward with their newer ones. The Godzilla (and its newer lesser-displaced version) are iron-block, 2v, pushrod cam-in-block port-injected behemoths. Sounds a lot like my '97 F250's 7.5L, which is essentially a design from the '60s with EFI thrown on. And it works. Well. The 7.3L Godzilla works better (too bad they are all bolted to slushboxes).

To the original post. this is/was old news, but the epa still continues to hit the manufacturers of the parts/tuners and the installers. Which is no big surprise as there's too much money for them to make with the fines.

Stop with the coal-fired argument. Coal is nowhere near the major provider of electrical power in the US, and in some regions there's little to no coal use at all. The official numbers for 2022 is 19.5% of all electricity came from coal, and that number drops every year.

In Missouri it is about 67% coal, and when there are peaks and valleys, it is always the coal plants that keep it stable. This obviously varies by area, but for us that is what it is, and why we have stable low cost electricity.

And of course, the next major one is natural gas. Also cheap, reliable, and stable. And also easily added in as necessary for "peaker plants".

We have two nuclear plants, three or four coal plants, and three hydro plants in the Charlotte area. Who knows from day to day where our power balances.

I haven't heard any comments like that from the Ram site. I use about 5 gallons per 10,000 miles.
