The last few times I bought Mobil 1 TDT it came in a bottle with the blue label, like this

Today i went to advance auto and bought their last 7 bottles for $5.99 each, but it looked like this,

The chick at advance auto said they're no longer carrying it because they never sell it. I'm wondering if this is the same formulation as the blue label bottle, and also how long ago did they change the labels? I'm hoping this wasn't on the shelf for years and years.

Oh, I have an 01 jetta tdi.

In my area, the old TDT label with yellow lettering was replaced by the new label with blue and brushed silver about 2 years ago +/-.

That lower picture is the older label. Changed between 1 and 3 years ago.

If you do buy it, give it a good shake.

False. Haven't you read one guy's working at Blackstone blog where is did VOA on *really old* oils? Additives do not fall out, at least in 40-60 years.

I can't speak for old oil, but with modern oils, some things do settle out. Oils and additives haven't changed at all in 50 years, have they? ;)

It would be better to shake it not being needed, than to not shake when it was needed.

Looks like the previous, CI-4+ stuff, which is even more robust than the newer, lower ash version.

I've seen some very minor settling in oils that have a high additive treat level.

The older Mobil1 5w40 said "Truck & SUV" on it instead of "Turbodiesel truck"

Edit.. The T&SUV was even older.. The first "TDT" bottles had the yellow lettering.. I forgot about those..

The TDT 5W40 as far as I know has always been 4 quarts.. I remember the Truck & SUV oil being sold but that was right around the time where I got my first ALH so I didn't remember the bottle sizes..
