For anyone that's curious, the jump from my winter steelies to a fresh set of detroit rims with 6/32 wear tires cost me 7 mpg or 3 kilometers per liter.

They're worth the smiles per gallon 😁

Oof, thats a painful hit. Pretty sure thats the drop I see when towing😄😉. Smiles per mile are what these cars are all about, but honestly I probably better align with the smiles per gallon crowd most days.

A little update on this, noticed im able to get ~50 mpg at 60 km/h (~40 mph) and around ~40 mpg around the speeds of 70 to 90 km/h (45-55 mph). Tires are at 33 PSI and around 6/32 in terms of wear. As for usual highway / city use, I mostly get 15-17 km/L as an average if im not consciously driving. It takes a mindset shift to get back the fuel economy back but they really do look great.

Edit: 15-17 km/L not mpg (35-40 mpg)

You may see more mpg if you ran higher tire pressure. 33 seems kinda low these days. That said, I run mine at 32 in the jetta but it has coilovers and I'll do anything to make the ride a bit kinder so lower tire pressure it is.

Not sure everything is ok. I went from my 15” steelies with winters to 17” long beaches and with a little boost leak I have now fixed maybe took a .2L/100 hit. We will know this tank for sure.

I have been running 15s in winter and 17s in summer for 15 years and tracking fuel economy in a spreadsheet. No measurable difference. I figure the fuel formulation changes about the same time I switch wheels.
