Depinning 01M TCM connector?

I need to run wires directly from my G68 sensor to the TCM.

I was reading that the blank positions in the big 60 pin or so connector actually have unused pins.

Do I need a special tool to remove those pins?

Side question - is it hard to get the wipers off to get to the TCM?

Thanks!

Not sure, but I believe they pop right in to a blank slot. You do want a tool to get them back out.
Wiper arm comes off easy with a small puller.

I have found that the plastic rain tray interferes with commonly available pullers such as these:

I've also found that this design doesn't allow the screw to be centered on the wiper arm shaft:

Currently, I'm using a puller like this:

This isn't perfect, but it's the best I've found so far.

How do you know you need to run new wires to the TCM when you (presumably, since you asked about getting the wiper arms off) haven't even gotten to the TCM connector yet? The G68 has a pretty long wire on it already that goes to the remotely mounted connector holder along with the internal transmission valve body harness connector atop the transmission housing. Most issues with connections are at that connector itself.

Already replaced the G68 and it shifted normal for around 50 miles. Then back to limp mode.

Figure it is wiring. I can trying bypassing that connection first and from there. Thanks for the idea.

Getting tired of buzzing around in 2nd gear.

i've never used a special tool to get wipers off. just hold them with both hands to get the kind of leverage you need and rock/wiggle and they pop right off

I rarely need the tool, but once in a while you get one that is really stuck on there.

Wankel7, maybe if you back up to your original problem, we can better help find a solution.

Thank you for the offer to help :)

VCDS seemed to indicate the G68 sensor stopped reporting speed. Replaced the sensor and shifted normally for about 50 miles and then it stopped shifting properly. Then I bypassed the stock connector for the G68 with heat shrink adhesive lined butt connectors. Shifted normal for about 15 miles. Then limp mode again.

Random observation - I had the wiring from the old G68 I pulled out and striped back the protective covering to expose the two inner wires and the copper stands. The wiring covering on the two wires just disintegrated. I know they are 20 year old wires but weird - if those two bare wires touch - could that have damaged the TCM?

Anyways, next I will try running wires from the G68 direct to the TCM.

Thankfully, I don't really need 3 and 4 with how I use the car. I have been driving around in 2nd gear for a while now. Keeping it in a fixed gear - I am hoping that isn't bad for the transmission.
