Defeating ESC

I am concerned with the possibility of NOT having control over Electronic Stability Control (ESC) on my brand new Jetta TDI Highline. Living in Leduc Alberta and commuting to Edmonton finds me having to deal with 3 km of gravel road that can (drift in) in the winter. What would happen if I were to wire in a reset to the main fuse that controls the ABS System/ESC.....I am talking about being stuck vs defeating the system and getting out of a situation. Will it throw a check engine light? Sure pisses me off that there is no switch to dissengage it.
Anyone done it? Thoughts??

Here's a link to a thread that better relates

FWIR the ESC does not need to be turned off. Supposedly under 10km it does not activate anyways so as to avoid the 'being stuck' situation. While this may be concerning to the 16 individuals in north america who x-cross their TDI jettas, for the rest of us it should work just fine

Personally i hate the esp in my jetta and soon as i can find a way to put a switch in it i will. I have to drive in some nasty roads and deep snow and it wont let you keep momentum...Never had it in my 2003 and i loved not having it. Only time i like the esp is long icy hills but again i never found the ditch with my 03 i think its great if you cant drive tho

This came from a salesman at one of the local dealers so I have no idea if its true or not. He claimed if you put a DSG trans in manual mode it will overide the esc (or asr).

There's a big difference between winter in kansas and winter in edmonton. There is still snow in my back yard....although its almost gone.:D

You are absolutely correct.:) Sometimes you're just gonna have to drive the 4X4 to work.

We only had ONE storm that dropped 12-14 inches(!!) of snow on us this year(We don't get this large of snowfall often) and I'm sure that is nothing compared to what you guy get on a regular basis.:p

All I can tell you is that as long as the snow is not so deep as to completely overwhelm the car, the ESP/ESC systems work very well for me.

Buy a good set of snow tires and you shouldn't have to worry about the ESP.

New England got plenty of snow this winter and I never found the need to turn it off in my '10, eventhough I have the option.

ESP button on the 2010's will just allow you to spin the wheels with out the fuel being cut, it actually just shuts off the traction control system (thats why TCS Off is displayed in the MFD).

In the 2010's and I imagine 2011's you can't shut off the ESP (no button on the ESP on the '11 jetta?), which is the cars ability to save the car from a spin, applying brakes to certin wheels when sliding on the road.

I have heard that disconnecting the yaw sensor defeats the actual ESP, I haven't tried.
