Deafbug's Beetles GTG

As some of you may know I'm helping out Brad's widow (Deanna) sell off Brad's things which includes a whole lotta parts as well as his two Beetles. I've have a number of offers from members who I feel really want to help return the favor for all that Brad has done for tdiclub over the years so I'll be hosting a GTG at my place this Saturday (7.20.13) to fix up his beetles so we can sell em.

Here's the list of to-do's on the two cars that I'd love some help with.



Silver Beetle:

1. Reattach rear bumper/fenders (I removed to assess/repair damage from off-road excursion)
2. Install turbo-back exhaust (donated by GG)
3. Install center console latch (donated by Newzboys)
4. Reattach side cover of center console
5. Replace clock ring (need to purchase)
6. Fix driver's side seatbelt latch wiring
7. Replace scratched dash covers (donated by GG)
8. Replace timing belt (donated by DieselGeek)
9. Reinstall Panzer plate

White Beetle:

1. Replace intercooler (donated by GG)
2. Polish headlights (I have a polishing kit)
3. Replace belly pan and side skirts? (Brad had a manual belly pan...not sure if we can get that to work)
4. Replace glow plugs (donated by Jfettig)
5. Install center console latch and hinge (donated by Newzboys)
6. Tighten center console mounting
7. Install pass door microswitch (donated by GG)
8. Radio not seated all the way into the dash?
9. Incorrect external temp reading...faulty sensor or wiring?
10. Swap out winter tires for summers (could use two tires if anyone has some 205/55R16 tires laying around)

Swap out winter tires for summers (could use two tires if anyone has some 205/55R16 tires laying around)

I might get some different tires for my car, and will then have some spare tires to swap out for you. Gonna plan to get them this weekend potentially.

I only have spare 15" tires.

This was the one weekend we had the rest of the summer to [re]build our fence.

Well at least we did get a lot done. I'll have the rest of the parts soon.

Big thanks to merker and jfettig for coming out on Saturday. We were able to complete all of the items on the white Beetle and a number of items on the silver one. I spent a few hours yesterday detailing the white one and snapped some pictures for the For Sale add/thread.

Thanks again to all the vendors who generously donated parts to make this work.

hello everyone. i didnt think that i would be back posting on this forum again. yet, here i am with some kind words.

it hasnt been that long since our worlds changed forever, but it feels like forever. brads mom, my aunt, sandy has been keeping up with some of the threads here on tdi. she doesnt have a registered account but did want me to pass on a message to you.

you have all touched us immensely with your kindness and willingness to fix up brads cars. whether you donated time, money, or even just saying that you wish you could have been there help. it is absolutely amazing to see a community like this rally together and give and show support for someone that you may have barely known. words cannot express how amazing this has all been. brad really was loved and appreciated. thank you all for what you have done. it almost feels like we gained an extended family just by reading your responses.


greengeeker, is there a link to the pictures of the cars? sandy and i would both love to see the finished bugs.
