I’ve heard this tried….. I’ve never done it…… pull the battery cables off and touch them together for 30 seconds , reconnect and see what happens.

Second thing to try , again I’ve not done it , is to go to the on position and let the car sit that way for 30 minutes, then try to start it.

Both above items won’t cost you anything but time .

If that doesn’t work you will need to get ahold of an original version of vagtacho and get the SKC ( secret key code ) from the cluster , then use Vcds to reprogram you keys to your car. If you don’t have acess to the above you will either need to go to a
1- vw dealer
2- lock smith
3- find someone who has the equipment and do it for you for a fee.

The above three will cost you from the most expensive to possible the least expensive. Just my .02

I know the computer system in this car is tuff. In the past I wanted to make a new key and the computer knew there was already 4 keys and would not allow another key to be made. Then the lock Smith didn't have the correct software to make a extra key and the computer locked us out completely. I had to go to a dealership and reset the whole system. I am hoping this ain't the same problem all over again

I've also had luck turning the key to the on position and sitting with my foot on the brake pedal for like 10 minutes. Then restart.

20 minutes with the key in the on position it reset and the car started. No I need to find out why the battery keeps dieing. I know 2 weeks without starting and temps in the teens/ low 20's don't help but a 850cca battery shouldn't die so much the trunk wouldn't even open

I recently bought a car that previous owner said had parasitic drain... First of all- make sure that the horn beeps when you use the key fob to lock the car. If it does not, make sure each of your door lock solenoids are actually in the locked position. Pop out the little black rubber grommet on each door - next to each door lock mechanism and make sure that its fully moved into lock position. Once I did this and hit lock on the key fob- I got the horn sound and drivers side red flashing LED light and no more dead battery...! Hope yours is this simple as a door actuator solenoid. My .02 cents
