Got a choice to make and could use a little insight. I have a 2002 Jetta (TDI of course) 5 speed manual, 180,000 miles. I have owned it since new and the only problem I have ever had was a bad fuel sending unit and a few glow plug changes. Anyway, it is due for a timing belt change and the going price around here at all the TDI club recommended mechanics I called is $1000!.
Now the hard part.....according to Edmunds and KBB, the car is worth about $3500 even with the new tires, and other tasteful mods I have (gauge package, steel skid plate, larger injectors, front and rear foglights, euroswitch, etc).
Since the price of the timing belt is almost 1/3rd the value of the car......would you keep it or let it go!
