Thanks, They say even a blind squirrel can find his nuts sometimesThats what I do with my toilet paper . You finally did get something right this time. Duct tape is the repair of choice in South Texas
Toss some JBweld in with the grease to fill any imperfectionsWould you like to add anything to that?
You’re better off buying the GKN joint from ID parts and replacing it on your stock axle (assuming they haven’t been replaced with chaxles already).
Anyone have any experience or knowledge of TRQ CV axles for the Jetta ?Yep - split rather than two pieces... not that I would recommend them
Bailcast CVS18 Universal Split Constant Velocity Joint Gaiter Boot Replacement Kit, Black
Are the axles you have now OE, or are they aftermarket?Anyone have any experience or knowledge of TRQ CV axles for the Jetta ?
Why? Replacing the part will give you OEM performance. I have over 250K miles on the replacement parts I got from IDparts years ago, The VW axles are way high quality compared to any stuff you buy locally.I want to get the whole CV axle left and right .
That's a good point. If his axles are not VW ones, then those parts from idparts probably wont fit.Are the axles you have now OE, or are they aftermarket?
Something about their name, TRQ = Trusted Reliable Quality, makes me not trust their reliability or quality.Anyone have any experience or knowledge of TRQ CV axles for the Jetta ?
Sounds ChinklySomething about their name, TRQ = Trusted Reliable Quality, makes me not trust their reliability or quality.
I really have no idea .Since Ive had the car Ive replaced almost everything on it , so they may be the original axles . Dont know though. Are the axles you have now OE, or are they aftermarket?
I agree , due to time constraints and a mobile mechanic I think Im going with the GKN axles. I'll keep the old ones and rebuild at leisure, maybeWhy? Replacing the part will give you OEM performance. You could get the outers (they are the same regardless of side) and do it at the same time, but from my experience it's not needed. I have the original outer on one side. Over 500K miles. Bad outer cv joints will click click click when turning corners.
If you cheap out and get some local store axle you will be replacing it in short order. They will sucker you with the value proposition that is not meant for TDI owners who put on lots of miles. With their lifetime warranty you will be certainly doing a lifetime of replacing their free replacement axle.
Another option, but it's going to cost you some money is getting Raxles. They are very good axles from everything I have read.
Whats a Chaxle? That mean China made. ? I cannot find GKN Cv axles anywhere for the 2003 TDI Jetta. What typee rebuid kit would I need for both ends both axlesYou’re better off buying the GKN joint from ID parts and replacing it on your stock axle (assuming they haven’t been replaced with chaxles already).
Any vendors have a rebuilt or low mileage used CV axle for a 2003 vw jetta 1.9 manual ? A OEM or OeWhy? Replacing the part will give you OEM performance. Yes, a Chinese aftermarket axle.Whats a Chaxle? That mean China made. ? I cannot find GKN Cv axles anywhere for the 2003 TDI Jetta. What typee rebuid kit would I need for both ends both axles
You should ask this in the Classified section of this site.Any vendors have a rebuilt or low mileage used CV axle for a 2003 vw jetta 1.9 manual ? A OEM or Oe
Oh haven't ever looked there ThanksYou should ask this in the Classified section of this site.
I agree with everything you say. If their coming out new ones are going in. I dont hove time to inspect then order then wait a week then fix them. Thanks for the infoYes, a Chinese aftermarket axle.
If yours are OE (still haven’t indicated if this is the case), you should remove it from the car and inspect. If the boots look good amd the joints have no play, the issue is likely elsewhere.
If a boot is torn, or a CV joint has play, cut the boot off and clean up the parts inside. If there was play, you should be able easily to see the wear. If the boot was cracked, look for pitting on the balls and wear marks where they ride. My inner joint looked perfectly fine after 245k miles; the outer had pitting and wear.
Then you decide if you need to order just a boot (your joint was good) or order a new GKN joint from IDParts and replace.
I think you need a 2nd ALH so you can afford to have one down while the other is on the road
[/QUOTE
It wouldnt be an ALH unless it was a parts car . Next cars a Honda

The right CV axle is shot I believe. . I will not even drive the car at this point. I just bought brand new GKN axles I will replace with . The original axles I will rebuild and sell on the Forum or Ebay, to recoup some of my investment on the GKN axlesGet some junkyard axles rather than new replacements
If you're really feeling froggy, swap the joints on the shafts side to side, then they'll be spinning the other direction and will be "brand new" on the drive side of everything
Just bought (from my daughter-in-law) a rust-free, originally from California, 2003 CR-V. First Honda we’ve ever owned. Too bad it’s not a stick, but she wouldn’t want one anyway, though she can drive a manual.Been there done that with the motorcycles , Honda as in car.
