Curious if anyone has gotten a speeding ticket in their VW

I've heard it said that red vehicles are ticket magnets. So I would like to ask if anyone has gotten a ticket in their Sportwagon or Golf, and what color is their vehicle.

So far I've not been 'caught' speeding. :)

I've gotten 3 or 4 in the last 2 years. One of which was initially a reckless driving, that got knocked back down to speeding in court though.

Black 2011 Golf. It is lowered and tinted and during summer has nice wheels on it, so I'm not helping it be less of a cop magnet :p

I had zero in my black '11 lowered golf on nice rims (sound familiar?) for the first four years/100k miles. Got two within 6 months of going stage 3.5. One from an aircraft speed trap.

I haven't gotten any but my wife got a major one in Virginia and a couple of warning tickets in the Charlotte area. Cyber green 2000 beetle. None in the red golf or silver JSW.

The cops around my area are weird. My United Grey Golf must be really inconspicuous, or the cops don't really pay attention to cars speeding in city limits. I've passed cops going 50 in a 35 multiple times and nothing.

Yet, in my 1991 535i I've been pulled over on two separate occasions for tint and my exhaust being too loud....the car has all original exhaust components (cats, resonator, and I replaced the stock muffler with one from magnaflow) so it's not missing anything lol I have since deleted the muffler and it is more quiet.

How can a specific car's colour influence your speeding tickets?
If you are driving over a speed limit, radar with catch you, regardless of car colour.
The radars are shooting infrared waves to the license place (or car's headlights) and measuring the time how soon they reflect. The entire speed detection process doesn't have car's colour in its algorythm.

I think it stems from the presumption that if they aren't shooting radar they would probably pay more attention to a brightly colored car or one that looks modified.

It's an old wive's tale that red cars are supposed to be easier to see and therefore easier for cops to ticket. Dodge has a new commercial that says red is the color all men dream about until it comes for their daughters.

> OP: 2 tickets in '15, silver '13 Golf 4dr, stock, with Yakima towers and bike on the roof. 1st speeding tickets since '04. Both after long day of mtn biking, I should have been paying more attention to ephemeral limit reductions in the two areas I was tagged ... tough to argue against 20+ over the limit. Oh, also, both coincidentaly happened in the non-existent "time of the month" when I see more speed traps.

I have had 3 red cars, 2 of them sports cars when I was in my 20's and never have gotten a speeding ticket in a red car. I usually drive 5-10 mph over the limit.

They say that white vehicles usually get the most tickets because they are the most common, however, my most powerful vehicles were white trucks, I never had any real issues.

Silver '03 Jetta TDI with around 160 hp: 1 ticket, 3 warnings.
White '99 Cummins with around 400 hp and 900 lb-ft of torque: no tickets, 1 warning(pulled over by a bicycle:eek:).
Black '03 Eclipse (stock): no tickets or warnings
White '96 Cummins with around 550-650 hp and way too much torque: no tickets or warnings.
White '06 Jeep Liberty CRD (stock): no tickets or warnings.
White '97 Cummins with 525 hp and 1,180 lb-ft of torque: no tickets or warnings.
Silver '10 Golf TDI stock: no tickets or warnings.

Hmmmm, I guess I should knock on some wood.

Yup. I had a bright red Mustang GT and a pewter (gold...equally bright) Camaro SS. I never got a ticket in either of those.

If you drive moderately, you won't have a problem. Keep your speed x < 10 MPH over the speed limit in most driving situations. If you're in a school zone...KEEP IT AT 25 MPH. I have literally never gotten pulled over, looked down at my speed, and thought...."man...I didn't deserve to get pulled over."

Edit: Now back in my "drive it like you stole it" days...I got tickets like it was my job:

-'87 Acura Legend L coupe (fun little car)....75 in a 45, 55 in a 35.
-'02 VW Jetta GLX VR6 (fun car with a beast exhaust note)...92 in a 70, 75 in a 45...to include drag racing and reckless driving.
-'97 Jeep Cherokee Sport...68 in a 55.
-'95 Mustang GT- Zero tickets or warnings.
-'99 Camaro SS- Zero tickets or warnings.

I had a lead foot back in the day, but that illustrates the point...keep it under 10 mph over and you won't have a problem. Back in the day...my thought process was "keep it under 20 mph over the speed limit...that's reckless driving," lol. I suspect that's where a lot of people are that are currently having issues.

It's a lot more fun to cruise at a reasonable pace in a fast car (i.e. My old Camaro) than it is to do the same in an econobox. That is why so many people get tickets in economy cars...you have to beat on them to feel like you're going anywhere fast.

4 years ago, 45 in 35 going down hill, hopefully my last one.

I'm now the guy going 25 in a 35 because there's no need beating up your car over frost heaves or pot holes.

i drive antiques compared to you guys but anyway... like bubbagump said, ive rarely been pulled over and thought "come on, i was only 5-10 over."

i definitely deserved (or earned?) all of them but 1... lol

that one was when i first bought my jetta and i didnt realized the oversized tires that were on it when i bought it made it read like 10 lower than reality...

after the second time within a week from the same officer, i figured it out. i passed him in the exact same spot and looked at my gauge saying 70 and he pulled me over and said i was at 81...

only got a warning on round 2 though because he remembered me and i told him the same thing when he asked if i knew how fast i was going. "cruise set at about 70, sir"

I got caught going 80 in a 55 in the middle of the night with a friend, totally my fault as I was showing off my car and pretending like it was a Ferrari after getting a stage 1 tune (we can dream!) I was honest with the cop and he reduced it to 65 in a 55, but boy was a scared about a potential reckless driving charge!! Now I just chill will the flow, which is still 10-20 over the limit in these parts.

Graphite blue w/ 35% tints all around.

Took me a minute to translate, but haven't seen that for awhile. Growing up, we referred to them as wolf packs. I remember seeing one trooper in the median with the radar gun then then at least a half dozen squads for chasing down the prey.

white 2012 JSW, wife and I 2 tickets and 2 warnings since ownership May 2012. (92K miles, cmon buyback, lol)....

Oddity: after ticket 2 I bought a Escort Passport Max2. 3 MPH difference in Speedo and Radar unit. to the bad. if it says 79 on dash, its 82 on radar. Which is right? i have no choice now but to assume the speedo is 3mph light. all of this after no tickets or pullovers in 20 years. I5 in Cali Sacramento to LA

white JSW and yes i've had some. who doesn't? the speed limits are far to low, in my option. we could probably up the limit 10mphs on every road in america expect business zones and neighborhoods and still be very safe. we are just a nation of bubbling idiot drivers that need to be babied by government.

Had a red '87 Nissan hardbody. Never got speeding but a few others. But then that was the late '80s and I was a stupid college student.

Automated speed camera got me. Was in a hurry, did 120 in a 75. They mailed me a pretty picture of me and the car, 3 penalty points and $130 in fines.
The car's grey and bone stock btw.

I drove like an idiot the 1st year of my license until I blew by a cop going the other way doing 70 in 25mph zone. The cop turned his lights on and turned around. I took my foot off the gas and coasted knowing I was screw. Before the officer caught up to me, I passed a church in which a funeral procession pulled in behind me. The officer respected the funeral procession and stopped. I lucked out big time and my driving strategy changed immediately.

I had a 86 Corvette and 85 Supra. I modified and raced the Corvette. I only did short bursts of acceleration, my theory was that I was unlikely to get caught if it was short duration of time. I was lucky that I didn't get caught and get an driving to endanger or a racing ticket. As I have aged, I am a much safer driver. I usually take a trip to the track once year to get my speed fix.

BTW My mother had a 89 Acura Legend 5 speed, I agree it was a fun car to drive.

My previous daily driver was a 2002 grand prix gtp. Supercharged. Red. I never got speeding tickets in that thing, yet was pulled over many times. I think like 7 times during the time I owned it. 47 in a 35, 80 in a 65, etc. Yet the officers were always friendly and just let me go. With my Golf, I go like 7 mph over the limit, it's ticket time. I've gotten maybe 5 or 6 tickets since I bought it. Every single time I get pulled over, I get a ticket. It is the car, I talk to them the same way, look them right in the eye, ticket every damn time. I even got a ticket because an officer insisted he "just knew" I was speeding through town when I wasn't. Last ticket I was coming down a hill and the officer pulled onto the freeway ahead of me, 87 in an 80 zone. I'd never even heard of them being able to radar you behind them like that. But I should have known, my last ticket before that was courtesy of an airplane. Apparently, pigs can fly.
I think it's all about money, the GTP was blue collar, the VW is newer and more snooty, and that's all the police want, your money.

In my MK6 Golf in blue, zero tickets in the last year / 38k miles I've owned it. Waze helps as does knowing the route and not being an idiot. I know where they can/do hide on my routes. It was hard to retrain my lead foot coming back from visiting states with 80mph speed limits.

MK2 Jetta diesel in white was a cop magnet. I got pulled over repeatedly mostly for "random" requests to search it or for loud exhaust. Amusingly the exhaust was one piece welded stock in good condition. Only guess I had was that some local sketchball owned a similar car.

I had a red 1980s camaro that was heavily modified for a long time, it got me no end in tickets, but I was also younger and much less wise. Pretty much any "old" car got me undue attention in those days deserving or not.

Lifted Jeep with glasspacks and Mercury Grand Marquis no tickets.

I swear by my daily driver being as boring looking and new as possible nowadays. I think keeping it a little dirty and no stickers helps as well.

My dad always said regarding the gendarmes, "9 you're fine, 10 you're mine..."
That said I've probably been pulled over 30 times in the last 20 years, once in the last 5. Ive only had 4 or so tickets though...

Most most of my being pulled over was in the mk4 Golf ".:R" TDI I had. I miss that car...
