On my way home my cruise control suddenly quit and my glow plug light began blinking. This is the second time this has happened. The power does not seem to be affected and drivability is unhinderd. Does anyone have an idea what this could be?

Do your brake lights work? I'm no expert but... brake light switch?

most probable cause is the brake light switch..fautly..sending wrong messages (brakes being applied) = cruise cuts out and brake lights stay on..

Nice to see another Manitoban. This definitely sounds like the brake light switch. There is a recall on it so a VW dealer should replace it free of charge. I am getting mine done next week.

New brake light switch fixed flashing glow plug light

Hi Folks,

Dealer just replaced my brake light switch (under recall) and that stopped the flashing glow plug light - which had come on for the first time this morning. Thanks to all the TDI'ers for the good advice!

Cruise gone and Glow Plug Flashing

Thanks to you guys for helping solve my problem. Driving home from the lake last night and the glow plug light started flashing. No loss of power other than cruise gone but my 01 Jetta drove well. Thanks to your comments I found both my brake bulbs had burnt out - my third brake light was still working so I knew it could not have been the brake light control unit which I had replaced under warranty in Dec. 06. Replaced the brake bulbs and back to good as new. It seemed odd that both bulbs would go at the same time. Anyway, thanks for this forum to help me do a cheap fix.
