"... free help ...." is too often an oxymoron.
"... the only way to save money .... is to lay out some cash."

MWG, I still have my VCDS if you ever have the need, like if you get a blister on your push button finger.

That does sound straightforward. But my car’s a push button start.
None of the common rail golf, Jetta or beetles turn on the fuel pump with ignition on. You need software to turn it on. And not bleeding the fuel system will result in excessive wear to the cp4 pump.

IIRC the 2015 4 cylinder TDIs prime themselves, no VCDS needed. But get VDCS anyway!
I know the Passat does, not sure on the others though. The ckra Passats also turn the fuel pump on when key on as well, which is likely one of the main reasons why they don't have CP4 failure as often

That would include mine. ?
Letting the dealership switch the fuel filter is a good way to protect yourself to a certain extent if you have ANY warranty left....if metal if found by them...you MIGHT have coverage, goodwill etc. You find it ..there is definitely nothing, especially if the changing procedures have not been followed to the letter.

I just can’t bring myself to go to dealers.
Always had good luck with Quirk in Manchester NH, usually no appointment for oil changes or scheduled MX... only ever had two warranty events or unscheduled MX...was all pretty painless and prices were ok.
Many dealers use routine scheduled MX as a loss leader of sorts... giving them the opportunity to up sell or schedule other work. Nobody's ever said you had to have it done there, but having the dealer look always worked out for me.

Quirk was good to me, until they weren't.

Quirk gave me the cold shoulder for phase 2B on emissions recall work on the Passat.
"we don't have loaners at this time"
"we don't deal with rental car loaners, even if VWoA provides reimbursement"
"we'll put you on the waiting list for loaners"
"yes i see you're on the waiting list for loaners and see you've been waiting for a month, no i can't tell you where you are on the waiting list" yadda yadda id4 haven been waiting for a loaner for 8 months, you'll always will be on the bottom of the waiting list.

Eventually went to Autofair Nashua (actually in merrimack) they set up an enterprise rental car and had our passat for 6 business days for phase 2b.

Needless to say when the Passat was totaled, we didn't even step in the front door of Quirk. Autofair actually gave us what we felt like a good deal on the SEL Tiguan (vw 2K rebate, and the dealer knocked about 2k more off).

Meaning that I could just switch it myself and prime it by pressing the start button?

That pricing isn't out of line. I paid over $400 for the 60K service on my Wagon while visiting Denver in 2004. Granted, it was the last time my car saw a VW dealer, but still...

Which car is yours? I assume it's your 2015 Golf or sportwagen? The only ones I know for sure that have the pump come on with the key on are the Passats and of course the older PD cars.

Auto Fair bought the VW dealership from Tulley in Nashua, then subsequently moved it to a new facility.
IMHO if it run like other Auto Fair dealerships, I would stay away.... seriously, there is a statement about not getting "autofair'ed".
Had various dealings with them with a Honda CRV a decade ago, and will NEVER set foot in a dealership with their name.

Noted.

So far I have zero intent on needing to go back to any dealer. Will keep it in mind down the line.
