crash and now I need body parts

My son crashed my 2006 Jetta tdi into a guardrail. He took out the left headlight/fender area. I will more than likely be doing the repairs myself other than paint. So I am looking for sources that you guys may know of for body parts. Dealerships with good prices, aftermarket places that are good or anything else. I will check junk yards also.

I will be needing the whole area where the headlamp goes as well as the fender, wheel well, front bumper, etc., etc., etc. hahaha. That corner is pretty badly broken, but it did not get into the door or the hood. It just crunched that front corner up pretty well.

He is taking it to get an estimate but I had cancelled my full coverage a few months ago so there is no hope in the insurance area.

As far as the headlights themselves you can find good deals on slightly used ones in the classifieds. I have a set myself and would be willing to negotiate for the one side. PM me if you're interested.

You may also be able to find a front bumper on the classifieds as that is something that people tend to mod. You'll have better luck looking for that on the Vortex classifieds.

Where you located? I have drivers light, fender and bumper cover from when my wife hit deer and they replaced over minor tabs/scuffs. Reflex silver, but would be costly ship.

Thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it.

Nic_a_bod - do you have any pics? what would you want for them? If it's what the body shop is calling a "left Outer grille w/o fog lamp" I may be interested. The only reason I would not be is because they are only charging $29.00 for that. So it may not be worth it but hey, let's see what you have. Thank you for the offer.

cd_booth - I will PM you. Thank you.

CARTMATT - I agree that they would be costly to ship so that probably doesn't quite work but thank you very much. I am located just south of Chicago. How does the drivers headlamp look? That may work out. They are replacing it with an aftermarket one. I may be intersted in that one.

Chadwick1979 - Thanks, I forgot about that website. I will check it out.

Used parts via the club or dismantlers obviously have VW quality and you may even luck out and get one in your color. When my son wrinkled his Subaru Outback wagon front corner spares were not readily available; I used Certifit. http://www.certifit.com/default.aspx

They are also referred to as "sorta fit" but I didn't have any problems and it was an acceptable solution based on the car's value.

Good luck, John

Thanks for the tip.

I can get CAPA certified pieces from Rock Auto and a much cheaper price than my Body ship is using. They are using CAPA certified but they are from Keystone. Does anyone have a feel for the comparison of these parts? I want to get them from Rock if they are good deceit parts but if the Keystones are far better I may let them use those parts.

Mainly we are talking about the body shop charging $283.00 for the front bumper cover when I can get a CAPA cert. for $63.00 plus $106.00 shipping (wow). But still a savings.

Also the fender - CAPA from the body shop for $160.00 and from Rock (CAPA) for $45.79 plus another approx. $22.00 shipping.

These are the two parts that I am mainly concerned with as they are ones that require painting and are the parts that may be hit by hail and things. So I don't want to go too cheap and have it go bad on me later. The other parts, if to so great, could be popped off and a new one put on if needed.

I do need a battery tray and an air box if anyone has these parts please let me know.

They are used with around 100,000 miles on them, so it would match the other side well is the up side. For cost of shipping you might as well get the new $29.00 one.
