Dad is driving the Passat home, pulled into a station to fuel up and realized the fill was on the wrong side, went to move it and it's like it's not sensing the key. Anyone have any ideas? He's tried goofing with the key and the shifter and it won't turn. I'm going to have him try the steering wheel next, if that doesn't fix it we're going to have to call AAA or something. Any other suggestions? It's a Sunday and he's stuck in NE, any help is welcome.

It was the steering wheel, he just called me back. Hope this helps someone else out, lol. DIC says 39.8 MPG average, including driving around Denver. ;)

I think what happened was it was turned right at the lock point, so the mechanism was bound up, I've had it happen in other vehicles before. He's back on the road, was gonna grab a bite to eat and keep moving. ETA is 8:30 PM.
