Flashing gp, just flat out died got it restarted and made it another 5 miles. then another half a mile to coast over the bridge p0727 code on scan gauge. google says crank position sensor. buddy with AAA coming to get me a tow home.

Plenty of fuel in the tank?? Old vw fuel gauges get flaky when down low. ask me how I know!!

Also, I think if cps poops tach wont move when running starter, not super sure of that.

Probably 1/4 tank. Can hear in tank pump. starts and runs perfect after it cools for a while. then dies again when it gets hot. pretty classic cam or crank position sensor symptom. I'd limp it home if it wasn't 40 miles in commuter traffic

Installed new crank position sensor (didn't realize how easy it was to replace - would have attempted it on the road, but wouldn't have guessed it was a 9mm bolt securing it). Cleared codes and ran the crap out of it locally. Got it nice and hot, both on the road and idling in the driveway. So far, so good... I'll attach the VCDS scan in case someone else is searching for info.

just got the crank speed error too . sometimes cleaning the sensor does the trick
the camshaft one , if it gives an error and have long cranking , replace it . the transistor inside dies

I had a 3/8" drive 12pt 9mm in my toolbox, but don't ever remember using it! I know I wouldn't have grabbed it to throw in a toolbox to take with me.

I never had any codes related to this before, but for about 2 years had a very intermittant (like once every couple of months) stalling or 'miss'. Usually when it was hot out. Idling at a stop and it would just turn off, but immediately start. I knew eventually it would stop being intermittant or start throwing a code.

VCDS scan... guess I gotta order an O2 sensor as well... Already have the new antenna. Bought a new tandem pump since it's dripping. Also just bought a set of Eibach springs since the 1.8T ones I just installed ride too high (nice and stiff though).
