Hello, just a quick question on the Crank holding tool for timing belt installation

Neither. Not needed.

Even if you use it wouldn't you check the crank position before torquing the cam?

I hope so. If the crank isn't in position after tensioning the belt, correct it then torque the cam bolt and pump bolts.

Then rotate the engine via the CRANK BOLT to verify everything.

Caveat: If the AHF is a PD engine, not a VE, then I dunno if the above applies.

I don't know the answer but I can see the point of the question and that is that with a crank locking tool there is no possibility of the crankshaft moving whilst the belt is being put on. The camshaft won't move because it is so stiff to turn because it is heavily loaded.
Surely someone must know!.
