Unfortunately, no update. And it may be a while. We are in the process of selling our house, packing and moving. So all car projects are on a temporary hold until we find a new house, complete the move and then set up my garage. Haven't looked at it super-closely, but how do you remove the flaps off the CJAA intake? Quick/easy? Or "involved"?
About 1hr job if you have the special tool for the intake bolts. Once you get the intake off you remove the valve motor, break each flap off and slide the shaft out. You then should tap the hole and insert a bolt. Also it's an option to use the manifold from the Passat ckra. I did the first method. Ckra manifold is definitely the better way if you want to spend the $.

The special tool has a long extended m8 with a ball head called xzn 8. It allows you to pull the manifold without taking the rail off, so that's the reason for being called "special". Factory tool# T40159. It can be bought on Amazon for $20LINK. You can just take the rail off if you want instead. (Gotta think someone diving into dissecting the intake manifold wouldn't view those triple-squares as "special" anymore.
