Hi all, I have a 2013 Beetle Common Rail. I've had 4 other TDI's (1Z, ALH, BEW's) but this is my first CR. It's got a worsening clatter under light acceleration, and between DSG gear changes. Idling is quiet. I broke down and took it to the VW dealer for a diagnosis, and they declared it was the dual mass flywheel. So I replaced it, as well as the DPF myself. It took care of a shudde, but the rattle is still there. There was glitter in the damn fuel filter, but no fuel related codes. Could it be injectors getting metal in them?

The rattle has only gotten gradually worse. Could it be balance shaft chain? Camshaft timing chain? Something in the DSG?

I'm at a loss with this and really need some help...

Thanks much.

Well, if you had shrapnel in the filter, how\where do you think it came from?
Either you put shavings in your tank and then the LP pump sucked them from there into your filter canister or something metal after the filter is falling apart and said flakes are being circulated back into the tank, where they are getting sucked out from.
SO.... any metal things past your filter? (hint, CP4)
Look at your injector deviations..... there should be clues visible that you're about to have a bad day.

Most likely... they are downstream of the pump

You're not really providing much in terms of details, so we don't know if we are talking about something with no mileage, or 300k+, maintenance history, etc....
