Has anyone done a CR170 with a ECU upgrade, but left all emissions intact ? I really enjoy my Malone 1.5 and I want more !, but I worry about emissions in my state.

you might struggle with LP EGR, everything else should be fine.

Tune need to be clean to keep DPF from blocking up!

Those turbo's can run a lot more boost than most tuners seem to try, compressor map is quite nice!

How much boost would you say is safe on the CR170 turbo? How much HP will it support?

Recently dynoed my car CR-170 .200 WHP 330 Torque.I have a new map done from Malone will be back on Dyno soon to see the difference.Malone said its a more agressive map with 2 psi more boost.
The car feels better and more responsive with this new map.

I'm going back to my tuner on the 15th for updated tune from Mark.
You'll love it,also we dynoed 2 other Malone tuned cars same Dyno same day.Another stage 3 and a stage 2.
I've made several comparison pulls with these cars to see the differences. With this new updated agressive tune I pull away from these guys much harder than before.:)

what map is this boys? im going monday for new stg3 tune for my cr170 turbo and i would like to get the most power possible, i pushed the stock turbo with bypassed egt limiter for a year and it never failed, manifold gasket did tho lol. What psi is good without total reliability off the table

I just got this new map less than a week ago. Yes it's different as I could tell from the testing we have done with 2 other cars.i don't know the exact details of the map, I can tell you from doing a 5 mph roll a bunch of times before and after the new map is much better for performance .The really nice thing about having 3 cars we cruise almost every Sunday to compare the mods and tunes it really helps to see the differences that your getting in real world testing before and after.Im sure there is more than the 2 psi increase probably some timing and fuel adjustment in there also.Savageman you moved that EGT sensor and had no problems nice. Will you or have you kept the sensor in the same position for the CR-170 turbo? Thanks in advance.?

Do you know how high your EGT's where pushed on the stock turbo?

what actually happened was my pre turbo egt probe failed...so someone suggest to run it with the egt plugs switched...so computer now would be using post turbo down pipe egt probe instead of pre turbo. Now this translated to way more fueling, more smoke, more power but no limiter basically, the difference in heat pre turbo and post is quite large....i dont know exact temps but i seen 900c more then a few times at down pipe egt probe so i mean i could only imagine the temp pre turbo....3 inch exhaust helps keep down pipe cooler as well, The turbo survived and was working very well before i pulled it i had a weird noise on spool thought it was failing turbo but turned out it was exhaust manifold gasket failure and loose manifold nuts....I drive this car extremely hard almost all the time, i towed very heavy trailers for hours on end i mean like 6.5x12 enclosed trailer with 2 snowmobiles for 6 hours each way, turbo hardly ever went below 18psi lol....the temps i put it threw were likely insane and it still spooled, boosted and drove awesome...so in my opinion with a free flowing exhaust the cr170 should handle more heat then the stock one, likely weak point is manifold gasket

That's quit unbelievable. I've heard the stock turbo was good for more then 900c. I guess you proved that is true. Hopefully this will change the CR170 tuning parameters.

I'm the other Stage III going to the dyno tomorrow.

Thanks for information.

now that was only 70,000 kms so long term i can promise turbo life would be reduced, but bumping the egt limiter up on the cr170 turbo i think wouldnt be that big of deal just not to high.

im getting my stage 3 tomorrow as well and im going to request to bump my egt limiter up a bit....i feel 100 degrees maybe 200 more shouldnt kill the bigger turbo any faster then stock turbo on stock limiter.

I e-mailed Mark on friday asking about the newest Stage III tune.

Savageman69

Are you going to bump the EGT limiter to 1900 deg?

I'll throw this out there... On my cr170 turbo with a larger compressor, my egt limiter is disabled. Around 3300rpm at wot in 3rd the sensor tops out at 930c and the egt's obviously go to a very scary place in 4th, 5th, 6th after that......... I'm not at all easy on the car and nothin gave up yet.

This is good information but where can we see some dyno results?

Jim has the Dyno sheets.im sure he would post them. Although it seems like people just bash Dyno sheets on the forums. There is always a negative A-hole that throws in comments we don't need hear or care about what dynos are used for.
So we will keep the Dyno sheets away.I personally enjoy the real world testing we do to compare the cars. Malones new map has brought more power for us stage 3 cars.
Bottom line is if your looking for a 200 awhp - car this is the map with supporting mods will bring you.

That seems ironic. Most of the time when I see any bashing, it's because someone makes claims and isn't willing to back them up with dyno data.

Most people here are pretty intelligent, and know the pitfalls of dynos. If an 'A-hole' posts negative comments, we all know how to ignore them.

I'll post all Dynos when we conclude our testing.

Have you had any serious issues with everything you've done? referring to the DSG tranny or heads. How are the head studs holding up. Are you using any gauges to monitor the boost and egt?

Tranny just laughs at this power level, as well as the engine. Analog boost gauge, vcds for egt's. Zero issues, this is nowhere near the limits of the drivetrain.

How do you like the cr170 with stage III vs. stage II and stock turbo

I am currenty running a modifed cr170 turbo, I previously had a stock cr170 on it, overall better than the stock turbo in every way, no downsides at all in my opinion.

More aggressive Stage III flashed. CR170 - turbo spiking to 32 psi holding 28-29

Car feels a lot quicker but EGT's are up as well. Idling 50 deg more normal driving 50-100deg more.

I was thinking of getting the EGT limiter bumped to 1900 versus 1700.
