...is meant to be used on this type of connector?
I know the longer arms at the rear simply wrap around the insulator,
and the shorter tabs (indicated in pic) crimp down on the conductor.
I want to make sure and use the proper crimp tool for the conductor tabs.

I just bought one from snap on the other day. It was $50

I would not recommend the ones above , not enough power from the crimper .
A ratcheting crimping tool / that has interchangeable heads to match what you crimping .

You did not give a gage of what is being crimped ?

So this is the type of crimp head you want , but again matching the gage to head ?

Here's what we have at the shop. It works pretty well, though it doesn't do both crimps at a time.

That is just one reason why my recommendation - it's called a double crimp .
Another is if you do it correctly , you actually get the wire to fuse to the crimp ;)

I had no idea crimping was so complex!
But I know what to look for now, thank you guys!
FWIW, I'm putting together a connector dealy-o for the GP harness on the '01.
Using this kit:
"VW AUDI VAG - 1J0 973 752 & 1J0 973 852 - 2 Pin Sealed 4.8mm Automotive Connector"
